New Year 2015 has brought an unusual warm winter fishing pattern for the last few weeks to Mosquito Lagoon Florida, water levels remain quite high for this time of year along with above average winter water temperatures in the mid 60's at this time. Looking forward to some chilly winter weather coming back to lower water temps, extending the winter pattern for a while. Small Redfish schools and scattered fish on the flats, bigger Seatrout in the shallow grass as well as outside off the deeper drop offs, schooling size Trout over the deeper grass flats and edges with mixed spotty bottom. More of a spring like pattern with modest numbers of mullet schools in the area that have moved back from the south with our mild water conditions. Still fishing select size live shrimp as go to bait and small live finger mullet when available, for hunting the flats in search of Redfish and Trout. On one of the last days of 2014 new clients Laszlo and Brittany from Connecticut had a great, first flats fishing experience out with me, good sight fishing conditions helped them catch 5 Redfish with most overslot fish up to 29" and upper slot fish, being good catch and release anglers all fish were sent off swimming. First fish early was Brittany's...................................

Then a fun double hookup from the same school with simultaneous landing the 2 good Reds gave this great CPR catch photo release shot................................

Another new client from Orlando brought his adult kids who were in town for Christmas out shallow fishing with me, catching 5 Reds up to 25"and a bunch of school Trout, Chelsea had bragging rights with the best fish...................................

Quite a few nice Trout caught on the boat last few weeks, some on live finger mullet while fishing productive locations, mostly mixed bottom areas showing baitfish, some by casting tailed hooked select shrimp while poling grass flats and shorelines while in searching, hunting mode for fishy spots...............................

Another new client Guy brought out family members, all fishermen from Delaware, on a 4 person flats fishing trip on New Years Day, a little tough early this day, catching a few fish , but a strong second half, we ended up catching 7 Redfish to 27", 3 nice slot Trout and a bunch of school Trout, Reds were caught shallow on shrimp, the better Trout caught on deeper off drop offs with a tiny split shot above the shrimp to get them down. Rick had the hot hand for the morning......................

First time client Darrin from Orlando and his parents had a fun trip a couple days ago, also slow early with just a few fish, we stuck with it catching 6 Redfish up to 23" on the flats near a high water shoreline, mom Joanne was trilled to catch her Red on a live mullet.........................

Also catching quite a few school Trout, dad Bill caught his largest ever Seatrout also on a finger mullet..................................
