Well, we are full swing into our winter season and we have been focusing on Magdalena Bay, San Jose and the Cabo area. The fishing has been pretty good so far with great water temperatures.

Magdalena Bay: The marlin bite as been pretty consistent, but the majority of the marlin are further north due to water temperature. However, the marlin we have found have been of good size and the average marlin caught is around 120 pounds. The tuna and dorado bite has been great as well. We have been targeting structure offshore and having some incredible days catching dorado on the fly. On bad weather days we have focused on the mangroves and fished halibut, bass, grouper and snook. The mangroves are a real smorgasbord when it comes to the variety of species to fish for with light tackle.

Cabo and San Jose: We have found a solid tuna and dorado bite. The weather has been awesome with the mornings being a bit cool, but the days are in the eighties by mid day and very comfortable to fish in. San Jose and Cabo will be our main focus until after the holidays.

East Cape: The Cape has had some pretty solid fishing when we are able to catch a break from the wind. Marlin are around, but they are deep and we have to work hard to get a shot at them. The Sierra bite however has been picking up nicely and will stay good into the spring. As water temps continue to cool down this winter the Sierra will show up in greater numbers. Average size Sierra caught is around 2-4 pounds and they are a lot of fun on light tackle. Sierra will keep you entertained when you find a school of them.

I did catch wind that there are tuna just north of us in East Cape, so I might have to check it out this week…

Tight lines,

Jeff.
