Research has been pointing to the conclusion that Europa may be full of marine life and possibly alien marine life. Europa is the sixth moon of the planet Jupiter and just a tad bit smaller than earths moon to put it in perspective. The marine life may or may not be an intelligent species.

The suggestions of marine life come from the highly oxygenated oceans of the moon. In comparison to earth’s oceans, Europa is said to have over 100 times the amount of oxygen in the oceans.

With this amount of oxygen many forms of life can develop and continue to expand compared to what is on earth. Scientist states that they would be totally baffled if there was little to any life in these oceans, but highly anticipate great findings.

So is there more to the story that the public may never know? We all know how excited and frantic human beings get when there is discussion of alien activity. Would this be any different and would information be withheld? Even alien marine life would cause quite the commotion amongst our population.

Is Eurpoa the next best fishing destination in the world? Will you need a fishing license from planet Jupiter

South Florida has become one of the hottest spots in the world for recreational rod and reel swordfishing. On any given night a crew can head about 20 miles offshore and have a good chance of catching a fish from 50 to over 250 pounds. With the use of lights and mainly squid for baits, the swordfishing is one of the hottest big game fishing opportunities around.

If you check out Swordfishing Central you will notice, the trend from fishing night to during the day has picked up. While the night fishing still has many advantages such as: no sun to hide from, less boat traffic, cooler temperatures, etc., the day fishing has picked up its own set of advantages and possibly the main one of: bigger fish!

The daytime swordfishing definitely has a learning curve as the angler has the best chance of hooking a fish near the bottom. Getting your bait to the bottom with the strong Gulf Stream current is no easy task and reports of a lot of good tackle has been lost while learning this form of deep dropping. And to do this repeatedly until you get the bite can wear out even the strongest arms on the boat. This is why many anglers are fishing electric reels or power assisted reels. In some cases the angler can use the electric reel to lower and raise the line, and then when the fish strikes they can fight it traditionally and preserve the game.

Typically the fish we have seen are bigger than those caught at night. There are still many big fish caught at night, however we just don’t see as many lately.

In a recent tale, a well known crew headed out during the day. The first deep drop was made around 8am and about 15 minutes later the crew thought they hooked the bottom. After winding and the line coming up the crew caught a glimpse of the huge swordfish.

“I’m trying to hold back my emotions and I look up to Cliff and say nonchalant as he is acting and say Cliff we got a monster on here, it isn’t no pup, He still cool as a cucumber says well is it big as the one yesterday? (250 pounder) I look back over trying to hold my cool and YELL HELL NO; HE’S BIG AS YOUR FRIGGIN BOAT!!!!!!! Cliff is still laid back like no big deal; he looks over the side and almost PUKES!! Then the fish wakes up and the fight is on! He melts 600 yards off like a zebco ! tug of war for an hour and a half, Some of the most remarkable boat handling I have ever seen, We would be wide open in reverse hard left with waves busting over the transom, then wide open forward, At times I would have to grab the leader and run to the front of the boat to keep it off the bow as he would be wide open backing off! There is absolutely no question that if it weren’t for his ability behind the wheel that fish would have been gone 20 times, finally after what seemed like eternity I was able to get a dart in him, I ran for the bow and got another and stuck him again. Game over.”

The fish is estimated to be somewhere in the 600 pound range and one of the biggest swordfish reported in quite some time.

Every now and then our staff likes to get out and fish with the guides of ReelReports.com and provide our readers with feedback. This time we were in Miami Florida and choose to go out with Captain Bouncer Smith (www.captbouncer.com) located in Miami Beach Marina.

The trip included myself, Todd and Matt to fish with Captain Bouncer and his mate, Sherman. We originally had planned on targeting blackfin tuna as they come through the South Florida area from April through June pretty well and Capt Bouncer really likes targeting them at the end of May. Instead we decided to tarpon fish and see if we can get into a triple digit fish.

We got to the dock around 4:45pm and were off instantly. The captain already had bait waiting for us which included live blue crab and shrimp. We got setup just outside the inlet and had slow action to for the first couple of hours or so. The fish were rolling around the boat, but apparently were not interested in our baits.

While talking fish stories with the Captain and getting tips from his mate for other types of fishing, the bite was about to turn around for us. Right then we had a strong bite on the rod up in the bow. The massive tarpon took the crab on a circle hook and was running strong. I stepped up to the plate and pressed the drag up to strike and the fight was on. Thanks to some expert coaching by Sherman and AWESOME boat maneuvering by the captain, we were able to keep the fish clear of the channel markers and get the fish to the boat. Sherman was on the leader and made a clean release in just about 30 minutes of fight time. While estimating a tarpon size is tough for me, the experience captain and mate said she went about 85 pounds.

We reset and on the next fish we had another fish on. This time it was Todd to battle the fish. While Todd has had his share of back problems, he decided to give it a try and could always pass the rod if he intended. Captain Bouncer explained to us that he fishes short rods and the strain on the back is very minimal. He sure was right, even when fighting my much larger fish, I felt no resistance on my back and it was all in the arm.

Todd shortly made work of his fish and Sherman brought the fish up on the leader for a quick tag and release.

Overall, we are very impressed with the entire operation that Captain Bouncer runs. Even though the bite was not exactly on fire, we still had a great time and were able to learn a bit from a pro while being on the water. I highly recommend you try this trip if you are only in town for a few days or if you are a local. It is always a good time and if you split the cost with your buddies, it could even be cheaper than going on your own boat, considering gas is over $5.00 per gallon on the water!

Recently we saw a report out of Sebastian where a fishing team caught 35 dolphin, also known as Dorado and Mahi-Mahi, along with 6 wahoo. All the fish had some great size to them, including a beautiful 60 pound bull dolphin. The captain and crew stated to have solid action all day and left the fish biting. Here are some of the pictures of the credible catch:

Is this a sign of things to come or is this area just not fished enough to draw any conclusions? In our opinion, the dolphin fishing this year has really picked up. There have been several big fish reported by the weekend warriors along with the captains all along the east coast.

We look for a good summer of better sized schoolies than we have seen in the past years. Hopefully most can practice good conservation in order to help preserve this fishery, however since dolphin are commercially caught worldwide, the recreational sector can only do so much.

Smokin’ Em Charters of Fort Pierce Florida was told to take there business elsewhere from the local marina after operating their fishing business with women in bikini’s as the crew. The marina argues that the family oriented marina is not suited for such a business.

The business was using women in bikinis as the mates for the charters. We are not sure if the women were topless or just in bikini’s, but representatives of Smokin’ Em Charters said that the mates were not exposed while in the marina and were in appropriate attire for a day of fishing. The weren’t to get into their bikinis until fully offshore.

While out fishing, the women would off all services of a typical mate and staff of the captain of the boat. From rigging baits to pouring drinks, the women would make your fishing experience pleasurable and one to remember.

The company has been in business for eight years and would like to be back into the popular marina.

As we finish off Q1 of 2008 and enter the Spring, we would like to gather feedback from all visitors to ReelReports.com. This site has grown to an extremely large resource connecting professional fisherman with anglers across the world and we want to better the site with your feedback.

We are in the process of developing several new features, but the latest feature is the online fish weight calculator. Here you can estimate the weight of your fish based on length and girth. We find it works very well for most fish.
