The Tuna Bite is ON!

The Bluefin bite on Stellwagon Bank has turned on and is providing excellent fishing. The Bank is absolutely alive right now with huge whale shows, gannets, shearwaters, tons of bait, and Tuna. Save one day last week when someone must have snuck a banana on board the bite has been outstanding.

Saturday, Ray Moore and Cpt Craig Cantalmo from Van Staal/Fin-nor came aboard to do some testing of the new products. Unfortunately it was so rough we didn't get to try out some of the new big Van Staals for deep jigging, but we did put them on a double header of nice Bluefin after only about 15 minutes of trolling. The new Fin-Nor lever drags are unbelieveable reels - they kept the classic look of the originals with the "old school" side and top plates, but then teched out the crank side and gear box.bearings. Awesome reels, and they still have the smoothest drags in the world - just like the originals.

Yesterday, Brian Patterson and Ed Gotovich were out and went 2 for 3 on big Bluefin hitting on the morning bite. Brian's fish went off before we even had a fourth line out, and it wasn't until the 3rd fish that we were even fishing a full spread. This is an early bite, so the earlier we hit the grounds the better, but this even gives us the chance to go and jig up a couple of stripers for the grill at P-town on the way in.

On the Striper front, Cape Cod Bay is alive and kicking. The summer doldrums are over and the Bass are feeding again. Billingsgate is producing steadily, and some bigger fish have been showing on the west side. We are monitoring Scorton Creek daily, while there are some nice fish coming from there - the August Scorton run should start any day. This happens each year, and when it does, fishing is phenominal. In general, these colder temps and the Northerly wind we've had this week, are the first sign to the fish that they need to start eating for the southerly migrations at the end of September. Alot of our regulars book early June for the great runs with Stripers arrival, and the same type of fishing happens each year in September.

Good luck out there,
