Wow, was it crowded today in Delacroix! The beautiful weather and the excellent fishing had everyone and his uncle on the water with a yard pass. With the line of boats at the marina I figured it would be a zoo outside, so we opted to stay inside and work on the trout bite that I have been on for the last few trips. The first spot along a deep canal with an adjacent flat showed a school of mullet busting up on the flat. One of my guests had a top water she dog already tied on and cast up on the flat. The bait exploded after a few twitches and a quality 2 lb trout hit the deck. Nice! The next few casts yielded similar results, but the top water action soon slowed. My other guests were busy working on smaller trout with artificial cocahoes. One guest hooked into a redfish and boated the fish. We noted that the red had 16 spots. My guests were fishing in the St. Mattews Rodeo and they have a category for reds with the most spots so into the box with the 17" red. The action slowed as the tide slowed so we ventured further out to catch the incoming tide. We hit a deep pass with an adjacent flat. The action was slow at first, but became steady as the tide increased. These trout were 13-18". We also picked up a few black drum and one nice flounder. We were getting bounced around from all of the boat traffic, but the fish did not seem to mind. There were boats everywhere, running here and there and following each other around. I don't know if they were looking for fish or fishermen catching fish. We still needed a few more trout so we opted for a more protected spot. We hit a cove with an adjacent deep canal. The trout were there and aggressive. The fish wanted the artificial lures cast into the deep of the canal and bumped back into the cove. We also caught a few fish on live croakers 2' under corks. We picked up another nice flounder just before heading back to the slip. My guests ended up taking first and second place on flounder and first place on the most spotted redfish. I do not know what the prizes were, but everyone had a good time. The fishing remains great both inside and outside. Now is the time to get down and get in on some of this outstanding action.
