Dog Gone Dog Days
Here we are again during the Hottest time of the year. As you all well know, It's Hot! Don't think the fish don't know it either. Fishing hasn't been this hot in years and there just isn't an end to the amount of Red Snapper that is still out there. You can't even tell we've been fishing now for a few months for them. Every where we go the fishing spots are Loaded Up with fish averaging around 8 – 10 pounds each.
On our latest trips the really big Snapper are starting to bite better. With some measuring as big as 36 inches you can tell that the "Big Boys" are coming off the bed and are ready to eat. Now that we are in the middle of July you can tell that mother nature is starting to turn up the heat also with temperatures reaching 95 degrees some days. It hasn't affected the bite though, just today I ran a 6 hour trip and limited out with Red Snapper from 5-15 pounds for 5 men (10 fish) in about 20 minutes. The conditions were perfect. No wind, Flat as a mirror and the boat just sat there. We chummed up the fish before I let them put a hook in the water, in other words the deck hand threw a hand full of cut minnows over and sure enough here they came. 20 or 30 Red Snapper, all real nice fish swimming around the boat. We didn't even have to let out 10 feet of line to get one on. Dog Gone the fishing is Good one of the guys said as the deck hand gaffed a 15 pounder and brought him in the boat. With that we were done. Stick a fork in Me, I'm going home.
