Bon Chovy Fishing Report, Oct 22/2007

The winter chinook season has started early for us this year! We had a couple really encouraging charters in English Bay over the last few days. On Saturday, October 20 we hooked 6 decent winter chinook in the 5-15 pound range as well as a few smaller ones. This fishery should continue to get stronger as we move into November and , December. There were also a few reports of winter chinooks being taken up in Howe Sound as well. These winter fish are actively feeding and typically offer some of the best fishing of the year. The key to success is to find the bait. The southern shoreline of English Bay had lots of juvenille herring in 90-150 feet of water over the weekend.

In English Bay we tend to concentrate our efforts in 90-140 feet of water doing long tacks looking for bait and pockets of winter springs. We will try and concentrate on an area if we see bait on the screen and are getting hits. Early in the winter chinook fishery in English Bay we consistently troll between the QB marker, Jericho, and the mile markers with success. Winter springs will hit anchovies, spoons, and hootchies. Some of our favourite lures are the green/glow and cop car coyote spoons, purple haze and green splatter back hootchies, and anchovies in green/glow heads.

Call us for some of the best action of the year! Just bring your sweaters and some hot coffee!

Tight lines!

Jason/Jeff
