During a three day excursion in upper Tampa Bay Ernie Rios, A.K.A. Lil' E, and father Ernie Sr., A.K.A. Big E tag teamed a variety of inshore game. Both did well bagging snook and reds along the oyster bars north of the Courtney Cambell Causeway. Live sardines free-lined on the out going tide proved most effective. Lil' E made it look easy as he schooled his father on the art of catching fish! The open bay and north shore bridges have been holding some nice spanish mackerel. Lil' E showed them no mercy! Lil' E's bait of choice was large threadfin sardines on a 2/0 EUPRO circle hook with 18 inches of IT fluorocarbon. The mangrove snapper didn't stand a chance against Lil' E the''snapper slayer!" For best results Lil' E prefers light tackle. A 1/0 Eupro J hook & 20 lb IT leader with split shot or egg sinker will do the trick. Lil' E fished structure with rock bottom in 5-12ft. range. He used a chum bag to get the party started, waited for the bite before setting the hook again, again, and again! Like a true champion Lil' E managed an inshore slam by catching some nice trout using artificals on the Caulbreath Isle flats. Not bad for a Kid from California with two more days of fishing still ahead of him. Good Job Lil' E! Till next time have a safe and quality day on the water, Capt. Sean Hagen of Eupro Pro-Staff.
