Back in 2008, I met a group of American fishermen on the Portuguese island of Madeira. We were all there big game fishing for blue marlin. Six years later, who shows up here in Fort Lauderdale to come out swordfishing but my old friends Chip and Amelio from Fort Worth Texas! Chip brought his girlfriend Sarah and we went out for a full day swordfish trip. Our first drop on the water with old friends was 25 miles offshore in 1900 feet of water. We hooked a nice big swordfish on the bottom and he gave us a hell of a fight all the way to the leader. Just 100 feet away from the boat the fish fell off. What a bummer!

We went right back out for another drop, and about an hour into it we got a nice bite but didn't hook the fish. On our fourth drop, Chip got a bite and 30 minutes later we had a 175 lb broadbill sword in the boat. While the swordfish fight was going on we had some mahi-mahi show up around the boat. We already had some spinners ready so everyone else on the boat was able to get in on the action. We ended up two out of three on the Mahi. Nothing like lots of action in the cockpit! What a day!
