Mosquito Lagoon is just about through it's annual transition time with mullet flowing into our estuary in very big numbers. This means one thing....bust out the topwaters and get out early!!

Redfish and trout are all over the lagoon but have been some what picky lately. Over the past couple days I've seen changes in this as more and more mullet are showing up daily. Target these areas with thick schools of baitfish and your sure to have predators close behind. BIG trout will be a main focus in the coming months as they wake up from their pre - summer lockjaw and will easily fall for a well presented finger mullet, jig or topwater lure. I like to start out with a more noisy plug and if this doesn't get their attention switch over to one with less vibration such as a High Roller. Soft plastic jerkbaits such as the Rip Tide Flats Chub will also work well.

Our Mosquito Lagoon pigfish season is near and this is my absolute favorite live bait. In most cases I'll get 100 pigs on charters and use almost every one of them! I highly suggest booking a trip during pigfish season for some awesome action. These baitfish are like candy to reds, trout and snook.

The next few months will be the time to get that once in a lifetime shot at quite possibly the largest redfish you will ever catch!! They will be on the hunt in Mosquito Lagoon as well as the North Indian River Lagoon. You truely have not experienced a fight on light tackle till you do battle with one of our resident "bull" reds that can reach well over 40 inches and weigh over 30-40 pounds!!

Book that trip now, I do have upcoming days open but do fill fast.

Bio: Growing up on the east coast of Florida I started fishing at a very early age mostly on the inshore waters of the Indian River Lagoon. Now with the experience of learning every corner of the back waters and fish behavior patterns, I am a full time fishing guide on the Mosquito Lagoon. Besides writing monthly fishing reports for my website, Coastal Angler Magazine, and various other organizations, I also enjoy working with and am on the pro staff for Rip Tide Lures, High Roller Lures, Berkley, Pure Fishing, Daiichi Hooks, and Costa Del Mar Sunglasses.
