Hernando Beach fishing report.

Spring fishing patterns are taking place as the Gulf waters continue to wearm up. Red fish are schooled up along the outside points and islands. Look for mullet schools in these areas, a good moving tide has produced a good bite. Live green backs and pin fish have been the bait of choice.

Snook season is here until the end of April. Snook are holding along mangroves, points, and deep holes. Live green backs are the best bait to use for snook, along with a good current flow incoming or outgoing tide.

Speckled trout are still hanging around in the shallows 1 to 4 feet of water. Target grass flats with pot holes mixed in or lime stone bottom on the higher tides. Soft plastic flukes in white and watermelon red or white little jons rigged weed less or with a 1/8 ounce jig head is a great bait. Pooping corks with a little Jon or live green back will work great also.

Cobia are showing up on the shallow flats, look for these brown bombers cruising the flats or on the backs for sting rays. A Stout rod and reel is a must for these big guys. Live bait or soft plastics will full the cobia to eat. I like to start with a live green back then a 10 inch soft plastic flukes or eel imitation will do the trick.
