Kabetogama/Namakan Fishing Report 12/15/08

As reported last week, winter has arrived with a vengeance.

After todays storm we have 14-16" of snow on the ground with some very serious cold weather coming on strong.

The park expects to stake portions of the lakes next week meaning they are safe for snowmobile traffic and grooming of the lake trails may follow shortly.

The state has packed their trails and preparing to groom, and I believe the International Falls snowmobile club will be grooming next week.

Fishing and spearing this past week was quite favorable for Northern Pike. Very little walleye action and very few walleye anglers up to now.

When the trails get marked and as the ice gets thicker we will head into our winter walleye season.

Sports enthusiasts can put away the 4-wheelers and bring out the sleds.
