Rus Snyders

Sunday morning I arrive at the ramp, and find there is an ABA tournament going on. We wait for the 30 boats to launch, and then take off. It's been warm and sunny all week, but the water temp on the main lake is still in the upper 50's. The back of Dry Creek was our first stop. We start off throwing Brush Hogs, jigs and drop shots on a deeper rocky ledge that was near a spawning flat. The fish were schooled up there pretty good. We worked the area for two hours and caught 9 bass, half of them were between 3-4 pounds. We work our way further back the arm and catch another two bass on a Staysee (Chartreuse Shad). They were sitting on a wind blown point that had some wood. We spend a little time getting out of the wind and looking for beds in the very back, but the water got colder (56 degrees) the further we went back. We got out of there and headed to Cherry Creek. Just as were arriving, an armada of boats (12 or so) was heading out to get to the weigh in. The water temperature was 62 in Cherry so my guess is the bass may have started spawning here. By 3:00 pm the clouds and wind came in a bit, so we decided not to look for beds, and target the prespawn fish. Using Staysees and Red Eye Shads we catch two more largemouth and one smallmouth. The bass were sitting on the secondary points that had wind blowing into them. Our best 5 went just over 17 pounds, would have got us 3rd in the tournament.
