Cool Mornings Turning Trout On by

[Pascagoula River,MS] Top water lures are working well on some nice speckled trout in the early mornings. We're catching them mostly around the mouths of bayous that empty into the river.

Barry Brown (8/05/2006)
[Pascagoula River,MS] The juvenile pogies are a good size now and we will be fishing with them through October. Pogies (menhaden) are an oily herring-like fish that have flashy silver sides. The oil produces a great scent to attract the reds and specks, and their flash can be easily seen by the predator fish.

Barry Brown (6/28/2006)
[Pascagoula River,MS] We're still catching a lot of reds on live bait, and the best news is that the juvenile pogies are now large enough to get their attention. Within the past few days I have started using some pogies along with my usual cocahoe minnows with a lot of success.
Top Water Specks and Reds by

[Pascagoula River,MS] The water temp is up to nearly 80 degrees, and that means top water fishing. We have had several great catches lately on top in the early morning.
Top Water Trout and Reds by
Barry Brown (4/26/2006)
[Pascagoula River,MS] Over the past two weeks we have consistently caught some nice trout on top water lures in the early morning and just before sunset. The trout are out on the oyster reefs and in several of my favorite spots up river. These have been some very nice-sized trout in the two to four pound range.
