Spring Chinook salmon are surging into the lower Rogue River, and with river levels finally dropping to 10,000 cfs and below, catches are improving.

Guide Andy Martin of Wild Rivers Fishing (www.wildriversfishing.com) was on the river last Monday, Tuesday and Saturday, and reported good catches on the lower river from Elephant Rock up to the Willows.

Anchor fishing and running anchovies with small spinner blades has worked best. Size 4 gold Hilderbrandt baldes have worked best.

Martin said the best fishing has been in 5 to 6 feet of water.

Last year 20,000 springers crossed Gold Ray Dam on the Rogue River, and this year's run appears to be on that pace or better.
