PRIER BRASS COMPANY Tall Globe Railroad Lantern For Sale

PRIER BRASS COMPANY Tall Globe Railroad Lantern
Current Bid: $ 74.99

Here is a Prier Brass Manufacturing Company tall globe lantern in reasonable shape, complete with globe, burner and tank. The lantern is not brass, but is made of steel. Only the burner and twist off font latch are brass. In 1880 Prier bailed out of his partnership with Loeffelholz (Loeffelholz & Prier), and moved to Kansas City to start another business. The Prier Brass Company name dates from 1895, which gives a lower bound to the lantern's age.

Lantern Frame:

Top is marked PRIER BRASS MFG. CO. KANSAS CITY. U.S.A. There are a few small dings on the smoke dome and none on the brim, which is rust free but does have some very small pin holes by the latch. Top has some pitting and roughness. Globe guards are straight and the thumb latch is not broken. There are no breaks in the guard connecting clips. Upper globe retainer is in good shape, as is brass tank latch.

Globe:

Clear tall #39 extended base globe is unmarked. The globe is free of cracks, but does have the usual rim flea bites which cannot be seen when the globe is in the lantern.

Burner and Tank:

Brass burner is in very good shape and is marked DEITZ on the thumb wheel. Tank is unique to Prier and has a couple of locating pins on it, presumably to prevent the tank from falling out if it becomes unlatched. The tank bottom has some dings and an ancient solder repair; no guarantee about lack of holes but none are visible.
