Icom 706 Tech special or use as receiver! For Sale

This is a ham friend of mines Icom 706 HF/VHF  2 meter radio. He has decided to buy a new 706 mk2g instead of fixing this one.

He bought the radio from the Huntsville Alabama hamfest several years ago. Recently we discovered it would not transmit on FM mode at all. It tries to transmit and then cuts power back to zero. The SWR on the antenna system is 1 to 1 so it isn't a swr problem. I contacted 2 people on 40 meter SSB and 1 on 80 meter SSB and they both reported that the radio sounded like it had Rf in it. It sounded aa little distortted but not so much they couldnt understand me. It is possible that it is RF because it seemed to be clearer at lower power. I checked receive on all bands and it seems fine. It put out 100 watts on 40 and 80 meters on SSB and rtty worked. I did not check CW but would guess it works also. The radio is a little dusty but no major scratches or missing knobs. It does not have a extra filters that I know of. Comes with hand mike and power cord.

Can you bring her back to life? This would also make a great receiver for anyone wanting to just listen! My callsign is W4ECN. If you have any questions email me through ebay please.  Paypal only!
