Trinity River Salmon Guides Salmon & Steelhead Report

Trinity river fishing for salmon has not changed much this week for the most part with mostly small jack salmon being caught with a few larger salmon on occassion. Most of the fall run salmon are in the lower Trinity and Klamath river. The first significant Fall rains did arrive Thursday thru Saturday and with the small river rise on both the Klamath and Trinity river look for groups salmon and steelhead to move upriver. Larger salmon are hard fighting salmon 8 to 12 pounds on average with the occasional salmon in the 20 pound class a real possibility on the Trinity river this season. Trinty river salmon guides are side drifting and back bouncing roe being best technique for bank and boat fishermen. The Trinity and Klamath rivers are two of the three rivers in California that anglers can keep salmon this time of year. Larger salmon are still entering the Klamath river mouth with good counts a few days this past week as reported by Klamath river salmon guides. The Klamath and Trinity river's will be the only river's besides the Smith river that angler's can keep salmon on this season with the Sacramento river offering a very small salmon season from November 1st to December 31st from Red Bluff diversion dam downstream to Knight's Landing as reported by Sacramento river salmon guides.

Trout & Steelhead Report

Fishing for wild rainbow trout on the lower Sacramento or Sac River from Redding downstream below Anderson, Ca. has started to improve this week with a better trout bite and a few Fall steelhead mixed in as reported by Sacramento river trout guides on conventional spin gear. River releases are dropping now as they do every year at this time. Sacramento river trout guides are reporting better fishing for wild rainbow trout 1 to 3 pounds with the occasional big trout of 4 plus pounds from Redding downstream near Red Bluff. Both hatchery and wild steelhead have been hooked from Redding downriver below Red Bluff Ca. Most Sacramento river rainbow trout have been over 16 inches with some in the twenty plus inch class. Fall salmon are spawning making for multiple Sacramento river rainbow trout hook-ups a day are a real possibility this time of year while Sacramento river trout fishing with a few larger adult steelhead mixed in per day as reported by Sacramento river trout guides. 20 to 30 wild bows hooked per day can be expected in October. More Fall salmon are moving upstream and trout fishing will only improve through October and November. Sacramento river trout fishing has been best side drifting small glo bugs in various egg color combo's and/or live cricket or crawler's with a Quickie puffball have worked well for Sacramento river trout fishing guides. Sacramento river trout fishing has also been good by back trolling small Hot shots 50's or small K-4/K-5 Kwikfish in various color combos as reported by Sacramento river trout guides.
