Trout Bite Improves With Front But Is Concentrated

Well we're winding a long 3 day holiday weekend that produced some fantastic weather and fish boxes if you where in the right spot. Yes the bite has turned on but it's concentrated and if you're out of that area you're out of luck. I was surprised with the numbers of boats that where out over the weekend. I think it was up from last year and years past. Maybe it's the slight drop in gas prices or it could have been the picture perfect weather we had, what ever it was I'm sure everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend.

Ok lets get to the fishing, I headed to the beach front for the weekend and it paid off with us putting Trout in the boat between 17"-24". We also caught and released several Bull Reds along with several 24"-30" Black tip Sharks. We mainly worked the North Jetty and some of the beachfront. As for the East Bay I found some birds starting to work around the Sun Oil Cut across to Deep Reef. I got word of some Trout coming off the North End of Deep Midweek. I do know that the Bolivar Wells are producing some good numbers of Trout mainly on Shrimp but you can pick up some on croaker but the numbers weren't as good. Campbell's is still producing a few Trout if you sit it out. I will say the one thing that caught my eye this last weekend was the number of Flounder I caught and that was reported to come to the cleaning table, a little early from my records. West Bay and yes I said West Bay was a place to hit this last week. I had several good reports of a strong Trout bite drifting out in front of Greens Cut with some size and number you may want to check it out.

As for the coming week, I don't think much will change other than the bite improving. If the front that's to hit early in the week keeps the wind as it's been we could be in for another good week of fishing. I would like to see the water temperature drop a few more deg. and stay down. With September here we need to see it drop a little so we can keep the pattern going that's started from what I've seen. Look for the croaker bite to start to drop off this month and Shrimp and Finger Mullet along with Plastics and Topwaters to start to take over as we're coming into the fall months. I think after this summer and the water really cleaning up we're in for some great fall fishing.

Marinas open on Bolivar, Crystal Canal Bait is open around 5:30a.m. and the tanks are full of croaker and some shrimp. Like always they have bulk ice for $2.00 a 5 gal. bucket. If you want to call their number is 409-684-6624 and are located about 5 miles East of Sievers cut and 3 miles West of the Stingaree Cut. Bluewater Bait Camp is also holding some great bait on a steady basis. They are holding croaker and shrimp, they also have some nice table shrimp. Ice is sold by 5 gal. bucket and is $2.50 their phone number is 409-684-2248. To get to them go 2.4 miles East of Sievers Cut and look for the boat sign on the intercoastal they're up in the Bluewater Subdivision

As for the classes I've been doing I'm still doing them mainly in the afternoon weekday or weekends. The classes cover all of East Bay from the Point of Bolivar to Smith Point and back to Rollover Pass and everything in between, which will take you through the fall fishing and into the winter months. These are private classes done by appointment, one on one or with a fishing buddy. I will be covering it all from fishing locations to bait riggings. The first Half hour will be at the dock marking up your map, once that's covered we will be hitting the water marking fishing spots (G.P.S. locations will be given) and when I like to fish them and how I fish them. This is a no holds bar class. I won't be mixing people unless you put a group together and then it needs to be only up to 3 persons. I'm doing this for a one-on-one so each person will get the most out of it. Give me a call to set up a date for your class or if you have any questions

I want to let everyone know there is a new Tackle shop on Bolivar Pen. In Crystal Beach, Seaside Bait & Tackle @ 2590 Hwy 87, their phone number is 409-684-1889 and they sell fishing lis. They have a lot of the basic tackle along with a plastics bar plus 2 walls of Plastics and Hard Baits, jig heads etc. A s of next week they will be carring Rubberback lures. They are open Wednesday-Sunday 6am-5pm.

I would like to introduce a couple businesses in Crystal Beach that help me out and need to be looked at if your in the area staying or if you have a house down here. The first is "Paradise Cart Rentals" They rent and sell new and used golf carts and also have a great repair shop if you already have one. You can't spend any time on the beach without a golf cart, they're great and fun for adults and kids. Paradise is located @ 1900 Hwy 87 which is just east of the light at Crystal Beach Drive a block or so. If you would like sales, repair or rental info you can reach them at 409-684-5230. They do take reservations for carts and will deliver on rentals over 2 days.

Now for the second business and it's Crystal Canal RV Park and they're located at 1300 Monkhouse Dr. They have on the water and off water RV sites, covered and uncovered with 30 and 50 amp service at each site and cable. If you're on the water your boat can be right at your trailer. The park is first class with a bathhouse and boat ramp. They offer daily, weekly and monthly rates year round and they're right across the canal from Crystal Canal Bait Camp. You can reach them at 409-684-0268 or 1-800-619-6373.

Well until next week.........Be safe and watch the weather
