Venice Offshore ~ Inshore ~ Fly Fishing

www.reellouisianaadventures.com

The Schers - Gary, Robin and Erin - made their semi annual trek from Virginia to Venice recently. Their daughter, Erin, brought along her old college roomate, Melody, to try her hand at catching a tuna. Melody has recently relocated to Slidell, so the Scher's wanted to make sure she knew about the great fishery at the end of the delta.

After Gary started the action off with a 40-pounder, it was Melody's turn on the reel. She is pictured with her FIRST yellowfin tuna along with Capt. Kevin, who did the honors of giving her a bite of the still beating heart of her first yellowfin. Melody was a trooper!

INSHORE

Redfish action is excellent, with limits of the bronze brutes hitting the docks daily. Speckled trout have been a bit finicky lately, but Capt. Chris knows just how to make them bite using freshly cast-netted pogies. Some nice flounder are starting to show up as well and this fishing will continue to improve as the river falls and temperatures start to cool off a bit.

FLY FISHING

If you can stand the heat, the fly fishing from Myrtle Grove to Venice is outstanding. Matt Pippin got his first (actually first 5) redfish on fly recently with Capt. Rich just minutes from the launch. Pictured is Flip Frank who caught and released a multi-spotted beauty in the steamy ponds near Port Sulphur. Capt. Bryan also has been tearing them up down south and recently entertained one of his favorite clients, "the Zinger" who showed no mercy with his razor sharp casting skills. Bests flies continue to be the Waldner spoon fly in chartreuse or purple. Anglers can expect to catch & release a dozen or more reds on fly per trip. Plan on bringing plenty of liquids as the ponds are protected, so there is little breeze. One other trick is to bring along a large golf umbrella to sit under when not on the casting deck -- it worked great for me recently!

We have a full schedule again tomorrow as the offshore boats head back out in search of yellowfin tuna, wahoo and dolphin, the inshore captains head out for specks and reds and the fly boats target "cajun bonefish" in inches of water.

The Allied Group will be with Capt. Hunter on the 32-Twin Vee "Tail Whipped" while Joe Wylie and friends from Texas will FINALLY get their chance with Capt. Bill on the "Anger Management" which is sporting a brand new pair of Yamaha 250hp-4 strokes.

If you would like to experience the world-class fishing in the lower Mississipi River Delta and beyond into the deep blue Gulf of Mexico, give me a call. I will handle all the details and schedule you with one of the most productive & professional guides in Venice.
