Apalachicola's Lafayette Park Pier is Reborn On July 10th, 2005, Category 3 Hurricane Dennis slammed into Apalachicola, ripping apart our city piers, and in doing so, tearing a serious hole in the fabric of our community. After all, what is a fishing town like ours without it's fishing pier? Three years is a long time to wait, but the big news is, it's BACK, it's BEAUTIFUL, and it's BETTER than ever! Key West can have it's Mallory Docks; here in Apalachicola, we've got the Lafayette Park 1000 foot Pier. At this hometown tradition, Sunset is quality family time, and quality family time is also community time: for fishing, for wildlife watching, for cast-netting, and for just plain catching up with the latest goings on. Speaking of catching up, I've got a lot of lost fishing time to make up for-----gotta go; see you down at the pier! Watch this video slideshow and see what we've been missing! And Don't forget to select "Watch in High Quality" if you have the bandwidth. Views: 243 Rating:

Boat Broke: Always Take the Long Way Home You say you're "boat broke" and with the price of fuel, you can't afford to take that "hole in the water" offshore to fish? This video slideshow champions the secluded fishing holes where the local folk have been fishing for generations on the Forgotten Coast, long before recreational boating became big business here. Come along and see what happens when an Offshore trip is canceled due to a misbehavin' boat motor. The Outdoor GeekGal and Mr. Mike turn lemons into lemonade with a fishing trip to Northwest Florida's Yent Bayou, a consolation prize that turns out to be a hidden gem. Views: 218 Rating:
