Otter Fishing - Bangladesh
March 1997 In the world's most crowded country, Bangladesh, it's hard to imagine there's any room for nature. But we discover a unique relationship between man and beast. Crashing around in a log box, two otters in rope harnesses are desperate to get to their food. A fisherman lifts the lid and out they dive to munch on the fishtails scattered outside their wooden cage. Bengali fishermen use these otters to herd fish into their nets. Every year Bengali menfolk bid their families farewell and sail downstream to catch their fish. With a sharp smack on the bottom, the otters are dispatched into the water and told to swim for their keep! More often than not, they get caught up in the nets and incur verbal abuse from their masters. As crimson sunset falls, the fishermen cook by their fires and the otters curl up in the boxes and go to sleep.

Bottom-trawling video
This is a video showing a bottom-trawler (dragger) clear-cutting the ocean floor. The U.K., the U.S., Australia and many other countries are asking the world to listen to scientists and support a temporary U.N. moratorium on bottom-trawling in international waters. A moratorium would give scientists time to find seamounts, deep-sea corals, and other fragile fish habitats before they are destroyed by bottom-trawling. Also, because it can take years to put fishing regulations in place, a moratorium is needed to protect these habitats before they are destroyed. Although many countries support a moratorium, Canada's Conservative government and Fisheries Minister Loyola Hearn (Min@dfo-mpo.gc.ca) have said that Canada will not join the world in supporting a moratorium. Without Canada's support, a moratorium will likely be defeated at the U.N. in December 2006. You can see Canadians supporting a moratorium at www.deepseas.blogspot.com and you can learn more about the issue at www.savethehighseas.org

Gabby - Gabby Goes Fishing
Short, fat, boastful Gabby finds a boy fishing and offers his advice. Of course, the boy was doing much better before Gabby arrived. In short order, Gabby loses the boy's catch and bait. When Gabby is taunted by a fish, he rents a boat, tackle, and supplies and goes after the fish. Gabby's brief success is cut short when the fish pulls two plugs from the bottom of the boat; with Gabby's hands occupied plugging the holes, the fish raids his lunch box. Time for the secret weapon: a harpoon gun. The fish ties the harpoon line around an old motor, which starts, destroys the boat, and hauls Gabby around like a water-skier. The boy catches him in his net.

66 Dolphin Personal Watercraft, Winter Fishing, Four Winns
http://www.TheBoaters.TV EP 66 -- First up: Innespace Dolphin and Sea Breacher Freestyle Watercraft - Take a Flip on the Water Side! From Innespace Productions comes this fully submersible, gas-powered Dolphin watercraft, which not only mimics the look of our beloved aquatic counterpart, but also its abilities. The Innespace Dolphin can travel both on and under the surface of the water, and perform sustained snorkel dives of 20 seconds at 20 mph. It also does acrobatic tricks--from barrel rolls and leaps above the waves to mid-air rolls with inverted landings and planeing at 30 mph with the canopy fully open. Completed in 2001, the Innespace Dolphin has been successfully performing at shows and events for the last four years. And now for Innespace's latest creation: The Sea Breacher. Able to accommodate two passengers as opposed to just one, the new Sea Breacher is 50% larger and 20% heavier than the Dolphin Hull, meaning it can also accommodate larger, more powerful engine packages. She will be unveiled later this year and limited numbers will be available next year for racing and special events. For more information on the Innespace Sea Breacher and Dolphin, please visit Innespace Production's website: http://www.innespace.com Next Up: From boating writer Janet Groene, here are some fishing tips to help you anglers out there catch your limit during the winter months... First and foremost, keep yourself warm and safe. Here's how: * Take along a fishing buddy or two and leave a detailed float plan. * It is more important now, more than ever, to wear your PFD at all times aboard your boat. * Avoid denim and cotton clothing and instead wear layers of wool and high-tech synthetics. Now when it comes to the actual FISHING time: * Investigate what any water birds are doing, like herons, cormorants or grebes. (They'll spot signs of life before you do!) * If you find mud on the belly of the first fish you bring up, you know the bottom is where the action is. Look for deep water close to shore and go deep and vertical with the bait. * Fish are sluggish in cooler waters, so use more of a lethargic bottom-crawl in winter, and be patient when presenting the lure, giving each spot extra time. * Spraying soft, plastic lures with an attractant to encourage them to mouth bait longer. * Use low-stretch line and a spray-on line conditioner which can keep the line free of ice. Finally today, it's our BoatTEST Reports Feature of the Week: the Four Winns V258 Cruiser For more on the V258 Cruiser from FourWinns, cruise on over to BoatTEST's website at http://www.BoatTEST.com Julie's TheBoaters.com Sealebrity Profile Pick of the Day is: Captain Angel Gonzalez and his 1999 27-foot Monterey 262 Cruiser, "Euristika!" Fishing for Fluke with Captain Al Lorenzetti
Fishing for Fluke with Captain Al Lorenzetti "Fishing for Fluke" is an in-depth look at one of the most popular types of inshore fishing on the East Coast. Fluke fishing can be a laid back affair for the whole family or a sporting challenge for those looking to score with that big "doormat" trophy fish. Successful fluke fishing requires attention to detail. In this video, Al covers all of the elements needed to catch them like a pro. Preparing and rigging baits is a featured topic. Very often overlooked by most anglers is the fact that artificial lures can be deadly for catching fluke. Al covers the most effective patterns and shows the proper rigging, tipping-off , and fishing technique that makes them irresistible to these gamesters. Tackle used for fluke fishing can vary widely. Al points out the type of tackle that works best for bait fishing, working artificial lures or fly-fishing. The use of electronics can always add to fishing success. They can be very helpful in locating potential fishing hot spots. Al explains how you can use your sonar recorder to find good bottom structure that may hold some quality fish. Al puts it al together in his fluke fishing action sequences. Fishing techniques that work best under different tidal conditions and water depths are covered. Hooking, landing and handling of the catch is discussed and illustrated as well. To wrap it all up on a culinary note, Al illustrates the proper way to fillet this most tasty of all inshore game fish. www.skimmeroutdoors.com
