Turks head knot With your left hand facing palm up make three round turns around your left hand. Pull the turn closest to your thumb under the second turn then pull the running end through the bight. Cross all turns with the running end placing it nearest to your thumb. Turn your hand over and tuck the running end under the turn nearest it and leave it nearest your fingertips. Pull a bight from the topmost turn under then feed the running end from bottom up through that eye. The running end now is tucked in to parallel the standing part and you continue to follow to fill out the knot. Views: 2154 Rating:

Portuguese Bowline This method makes the knot quick and easy to tie. It is useful when you expect a blow and need to take a few turns around your winch to use as an additional hardpoint. In this case I am simulating a mast winch but the process can be used on a horizontally mounted winch as well. The secret is to form the bowline eye by capsizing an overhand knot. With the standing part in your left hand form a turn around the winch from top to bottom then cross the running end over the standing part to form an overhand knot. Then pull the running end parallel to the standing part to capsize the knot and form the eye of the bowline. Then pass the running end behind the standing part and back through the eye to finish the knot. The difference is that this version of the Portugese Bowline is tied in the middle of the rope and has a double turn. The result is a knot that can take more weight than a single line. As an added safety factor you can pass the running end over the winch to prevent the possibility of the knot coming untied. Views: 378 Rating:

Four Dimension Story on Fourth Dimension: Have you ever considered how a four-dimensional being would appear to you if it suddenly came into your room? I think they would resemble flesh-colored balloons constantly changing in size. We would see disconnected blobs of flesh, some attached to claws, teeth, lips, eyes, or hair. Let me tell you why. Think of it this way. Consider a two-dimensional world resembling a sheet of paper. How would you appear to the inhabitants of such a world if you tried to interact with with them? The 2-D creatures would only see cross-sections of you as you intersected their universe. Your finger would look like a flat disc that grew in size as you pushed it through their world. Your five fingers might looked like five separate circles. They would just see irregular shapes with skin boundaries as you entered their world. Similarly, a hyperbeing who lived in the fourth dimension would have a cross-section in our space that looked liked a bunch of skin blobs. A 4-D being would be a god to us. It would see everything in our world. It could even look inside your stomach and remove your breakfast without cutting through your skin, just like you could remove a dot inside a circle by moving it up into the third dimension, perpendicular to the circle, without breaking the circle. A hyperbeing can effortlessly remove things before your very eyes, giving you the impression that the objects simply disappeared. The hyperbeing can also see inside any 3-D object or life form, and if necessary remove anything from inside. The being can look inside our intestines, or remove a tumor from our brain without ever cutting through the skin. A pair of gloves can be easily transformed into two left or two right gloves. And 3-D knots fall apart in the hands of a hyperbeing, much as a 2-D knot (a loop of string lying on a plane) can easily be undone by a 3-D being simply by lifting the end of the loop up into the third dimension. Hipercubo: Hipercubo, is the Cubo in four dimension. This film shows in the one ortogonal projecção of hipercubo when it is looked at directamente for one of its vertices (i.e., in the extremity of a great diagonal line) while hipercubo parallel goes being cut to one of its edges. The initial slice is simply an edge, but, belonging to the slice the three cubical faces of hipercubo, the edge is changedded into a triangular prism, its three sides rectangulares covers the three cubes that contain the initial edge. Each vertex of hipercubo belongs the four cubes, thus, in each extremity of the initial edge, exists plus a cube; the triangular faces emerge of these cubes to the measure that they go being sliced in the direcção of a vertex. This prism grows until the o point where the triangles from above and of low are to one terço to cross the respective cube. From this point the triangles are truncated and are changedded into hexagons. The slice of hipercubo is now a hexagonal prism. The three original sides rectangulares of the prism had grown until the its maximum dimension to the measure that part the respective cubes, shrinking later in width. At this moment the slice begins to enter inside of three cubes adds with first edge, adding three sides, forming the hexagonal prism. These sides increase its dimension to the measure that the original ones go shrinking, the prism are changedded into a triangular prism when the slice passes for more three vertices of hipercubo. Finally the prism shrinks in order to changed itself into the opposing edge to the original. Views: 96442 Rating:

What Insensitivity, Indifference And Cowardice Allow Others To Do - Educational Video Director: Paul Julian/Les Goldman. Producer: Paul Julian. Public domain video. "The_Hangman" poem by Maurice Ogden, read by Herschel Bernardi. Musical score by Serge Hovey. POEM: Into our town the hangman came, smelling of gold and blood and flame. He paced our bricks with a different air, and built his frame on the courthouse square. The scaffold stood by the courthouse side, only as wide as the door was wide with a frame as tall, or a little more, than the capping sill of the courthouse door. And we wondered whenever we had the time, Who the criminal? What the crime? The hangman judged with the yellow twist of knotted hemp in his busy fist. And innocent though we were with dread, we passed those eyes of buckshot lead. Till one cried, "Hangman, who is he, for whom you raised the gallows-tree?" Then a twinkle grew in his buckshot eye and he gave a riddle instead of reply. "He who serves me best," said he "Shall earn the rope on the gallows-tree." And he stepped down and laid his hand on a man who came from another land. And we breathed again, for anothers grief at the hangmans hand, was our relief. And the gallows frame on the courthouse lawn by tomorrow's sun would be struck and gone. So we gave him way and no one spoke out of respect for his hangmans cloak. The next day's sun looked mildly down on roof and street in our quiet town; and stark and black in the morning air the gallows-tree on the courthouse square. And the hangman stood at his usual stand with the yellow hemp in his busy hand. With his buckshot eye and his jaw like a pike, and his air so knowing and business-like. And we cried, "Hangman, have you not done, yesterday with the alien one?" Then we fell silent and stood amazed. "Oh, not for him was the gallows raised." He laughed a laugh as he looked at us, "Do you think I've gone to all this fuss, To hang one man? That's the thing I do. To stretch the rope when the rope is new." Above our silence a voice cried "Shame!" and into our midst the hangman came; to that mans place, "Do you hold," said he, "With him that was meat for the gallows-tree?" He laid his hand on that one's arm and we shrank back in quick alarm. We gave him way, and no one spoke, out of fear of the hangmans cloak. That night we saw with dread surprise the hangmans scaffold had grown in size. Fed by the blood beneath the chute, the gallows-tree had taken root. Now as wide, or a little more than the steps that led to the courthouse door. As tall as the writing, or nearly as tall, half way up on the courthouse wall. The third he took, we had all heard tell, was a usurer..., an infidel. And "What" said the hangman, "Have you to do with the gallows-bound..., and he a Jew?" And we cried out, "Is this one he who has served you well and faithfully?" The hangman smiled, "It's a clever scheme to try the strength of the gallows beam." The fourth man's dark accusing song had scratched our comfort hard and long. "And what concern," he gave us back, "Have you ... for the doomed and black?" The fifth, the sixth, and we cried again, "Hangman, hangman, is this the man?" "It's a trick", said he, "that we hangman know for easing the trap when the trap springs slow." And so we ceased and asked now more as the hangman tallied his bloody score. And sun by sun, and night by night the gallows grew to monstrous height. The wings of the scaffold opened wide until they covered the square from side to side. And the monster cross beam looking down, cast its shadow across the town. Then through the town the hangman came and called through the empty streets...my name. I looked at the gallows soaring tall and thought ... there's no one left at all for hanging ... and so he called to me to help take down the gallows-tree. And I went out with right good hope to the hangman's tree and the hangman's rope. He smiled at me as I came down to the courthouse square...through the silent town. Supple and stretched in his busy hand, was the yellow twist of hempen strand. He whistled his tune as he tried the trap and it sprang down with a ready snap. Then with a smile of awful command, He laid his hand upon my hand. "You tricked me Hangman." I shouted then, "That your scaffold was built for other men, and I'm no henchman of yours." I cried. "You lied to me Hangman, foully lied." Then a twinkle grew in his buckshot eye, "Lied to you...tricked you?" He said "Not I...for I answered straight and told you true. The scaffold was raised for none but you." ." "For who has served more faithfully? With your coward's hope." said He, "And where are the others that might have stood side by your side, in the common good?" "Dead!" I answered, and amiably "Murdered," the Hangman corrected me. "First the alien ... then the Jew. I did no more than you let me do." Beneath the beam that blocked the sky none before stood so alone as I. The Hangman then strapped me...with no voice there to cry "Stay!" ... for me in the empty square. Views: 1156 Rating:

Night flight training over Carlsbad, CA on Piper Warrior Night flight over Carlsbad airport as part of preparations for our first flight-sale adventure. On Friday, November 28, 2008 I team up with 3 other people from San Diego and we fly on a small plane Piper Warrior to Camarillo Airport close to Channel Islands Harbor http://www.channelislandsharbor.org/ There well sail out together with 5 other people (9 people total) on Catalina 350 Palapa: http://marinasailing.com/YachtLookup.asp?YachtName=Palapa to Anacapa island: http://www.nps.gov/chis/ and return back same day. This night flight on November 13 over Carlsbad airport is a part of our preparations for our first flight-sale adventure. We are meeting in Palomar Airport (KCRQ) at Orion Aviation - West. We can fly only VFR with cross-wind not more than 10 knots. If we do not have VMC we cancel the flight and (if we do not cancel the sailing) drive to Channel Islands Harbor. We are going fly back after sailing (if we have VMC) and we practiced with Sergey night landing in KCRQ. Take look in rout of flight in advance : "kcrq vpspp vpldp vplhp vplvt lax vpgty cma" in http://skyvector.com/ both on sectional and LA Terminal Area Chart (TAC) - third and forth buttons in top-right corner of the chart. To see legend of charts reduce zoom (bottom-right) - legend is on the left margin of the chart. The most important are routes and rules of passing through class B LAX airspace - on the left margin of LA TAC. Also if we fly on the next day we need to reserve a hotel in Oxnard, right? From Wikipedia: Night VFR, or night visual flight rules (NVFR), are the rules under which flight primarily by visual reference is done at night. In many countries, VFR flight at night is not permitted, in which case night flying is by instrument flight rules (IFR) only which, in almost all countries, requires an instrument rating. The UK is an interesting exception, as is the United States. Aircraft flown under the V.F.R. at night require: • a landing light; • illumination for all instruments and equipment, used by the flight crew that is essential for the safe operation of the aircraft; • lights in all passenger compartments; • an electric torch for each crew member From Student pilot online book: Chapter 12 - Night Flight A veteran pilot once remarked that night flying is no different from day flying-it's just that at night you can't see anything. Although his statement carries a good deal of truth, you can usually see something. To compensate for what you can't see, you need proper instrumentation. To make the most of your vision at night, you need to understand how the eye operates in darkness. "Autokinesis" (short for autokinetic visible light phenomenon) is one of the special visual hazards of night flying. It resembles vertigo in some ways. Autokinesis occurs when you stare at a pinpoint of light in a dark sky. After a while, you get the feeling that either you or the light is in motion. To prevent this from happening, keep your eyes moving. Don't stare at a single light too long. Autokinesis used to be responsible for numerous aircraft disasters, until we discovered the cause for this optical illusion. Night flying requires a different visual technique than day flying. You can see an object best during daylight by looking directly at it. At night, however, a scanning procedure is more effective-to permit "offcenter" viewing of the target. In other words, you will find after some practice that you can see things more clearly and definitely at night by looking slightly to one side of them, rather than straight at them. The explanation for this lies in the dual structure of your eye. There are two kinds of light-sensitive nerve endings at the back of your eye: (1) the cones, which distinguish color and require considerable light to function, and (2) the rods, which detect objects only in shades of gray but can operate in very dim light. The cones, because they need greater intensity of light to function, are used in day vision. In fact, the cones stop working altogether in semidarkness. Millions of these tiny structures are clustered at the back of the eyeball, directly behind the pupil. Not only do they distinguish colors, they pick up distant objects. The rods are concentrated in a ring around the cones. Being colorblind, they see only in grays and are used in peripheral vision during the day-that is, to perceive objects in motion out of the corner of the eye. Because the rods can still function in light of 1/5,000 the intensity at which the cones cease to function, they are used for night vision. These structures are 100,000 times as sensitive in the dark as they are in sunlight. However, they do need more time to adjust to darkness than the cones do to bright light. Your eyes become adapted to sunlight in 10 seconds, whereas they need 30 minutes to fully adjust to a dark night. Views: 44 Rating:

The K'e Here I am singing The K'e by Dougherty. I haven't seen it on YouTube or anywhere else so I thought I'd share it! 4/12/08 Lyrics: The K'e still ripples to its banks, The moorfowl cry. My hair was gathered in a knot, And you came by. Selling of silks you were, A lad not of our kin; You passed at sunset on the road From far-off Ts'in. The frogs were croaking in the dusk; The grass was wet. We talked together, and I laughed; I hear it yet. I thought that I would be your wife; I had your word. And so I took the road with you, And cross the ford. I do not know when first it was your eyes looked cold. But all this was three years ago, And I am old. Views: 191 Rating:

Elvis Presley Yoga Is As Yoga Does Elvis Presley Yoga Is As Yoga Does Written by Gerald Nelson and Fred Burch for the 1967 movie Easy Come, Easy Go. Elvis sings it as a duet with Elsa Lanchester in the film. This version was released on the I Got Lucky LP. The instrumental track was recorded on September 28 or 29, 1966 at Radio Recorders; Elvis's vocal was overdubbed at a later date. It is now available on the Easy Come, Easy Go/Speedway soundtrack compilation, which is where this version is from. Well I can see that you and yoga will never do Yoga is as yoga does there's no in-between Your either with it on the ball or you've blown the scene I can see lookin' at you, you just can't get settled How can I even move, twisted like a pretzel (Yoga is, yoga does) (There's no in-between) (Your either with it all the way) Or you've blown the scene (Or you've blown the scene) Come on come on, untwist my legs Pull my arms a lot How did I get so tied up In this yoga knot You tell me just how I can take this yoga serious When all it ever gives to me is a pain in my posterious (Yoga is, yoga does) (There's no in-between) (Your either with it all the way) Or you've blown the scene (Or you've blown the scene) Stand upside down on your head, feet against the wall A simple yoga exercise done by one and all Now cross your eyes and hold your breath, look just like a clown Yoga's sure to catch you if you come falling down (Yoga is, yoga does) (There's no in-between) (Your either with it all the way) Or you've blown the scene (Or you've blown the scene) (Yoga is, yoga does) (There's no in-between) (Your either with it all the way) Or you've blown the scene (Or you've blown the scene) Views: 711 Rating:
