Fox River Trail Batavia Illinois Red Oak Bike Path In Northern Illinois west of Chicago, the Fox River Trail is a popular bike path. Between North Aurora and Batavia the river has paved trails on both banks. On July 13, 2008 we began in North Aurora on the west bank south of the State St. bridge, where there is parking. We crossed the bridge to the east bank and went bicycling and rollerblading 4 miles north on the bike path between the river's edge and Route 25. Above the dam is a place for jogging, fishing, or birdwatching for ducks, geese and herons. Where a limestone formation rises from the bank, the west fork of the path finds Devil's Cave in a secluded spot at the edge of the Fox River. Above Devil's Cave, the east fork climbs uphill into a dense forest at Red Oak Nature Center, which has parking and facilities. The paved path zigzags and goes running up and down hilly terrain and ravines. There are mulched hiking trails for people walking and observing native wildflower species and water birds. Inside Red Oak Nature Center are museum exhibits on wildlife biodiversity, maps and and fun house mirrors. Glenwood Park Forest Preserve has parking and facilities, more hills and ravines. Glenwood is a popular spot for fishing and skipping stones. In Batavia south of the Wilson St. bridge, the bike path passes Clark Island Park; another easily accessible starting point. The Fox River Trail may be crowded on weekends. Please help pick up litter. Views: 573 Rating:
