Sports Camp Visit From B.A.S.S Professional Our sports camp participants got the fishing bug Tuesday as they received a visit from fishing professional Greg Vinson. Greg took time off from his busy schedule to talk with the group about his full time job of fishing and to demonstrate different types of fishing equipment, bait and techniques. Everyone initially met at the pool and pavilion area where Greg demonstrated casting techniques and how certain lures and bait attract different types of fish. Through his expert casts and knowledge it was easy to see he has a great passion for his sport and willingness to share that passion with others. Greg grew up on Lake Martin and now fishes out of Wetumpka . Greg was brought to camp by fellow fisherman Jim Hardy, Jim is a past camp staff member as well as a past board member. Jim also brought with him William Davis of Davis Bait Company in Sylacauga. He makes many of the baits that Greg uses while on the tournament trail. Scott Martin answers forum question 1 Question from Stuart I've been fishing for a long time and I've always been passionate about it. This year I've decided to get more serious about it. I've always been addicted to worm and jig fishing and I love to throw the spinnerbait. Now, I want to get into crankbait fishing. I've never had any confidence in it but I know it's a deadly method to catch fish. I was a little discouraged to hear that if you're not bumping it into cover or the bottom that you probably won't catch many fish. Is this true? I was hoping to fish it on points and main channel docks on my home lake but that's mostly open water. Will this be successful ? Of course there are some rock ledges and rip rap banks I would love to fish it on as well. Should I look for crankbaits that dive to 12 feet or so or should I be looking for one's like the dd-22 that dive to the 20 foot range? Must I always be dragging these through and off cover to catch fish? Thanks for the attention. I know I just through a lot at you. Take care and be safe on the water! Week 3 Kicks Off at Dadeville This is the Dadeville Campus' third week to be in session for the summer, and the fun is really turning up! This week's group has 27 campers, and many are old friends from previous summers at camp. For example, Tabby and Abner have known each other since 2000! Lake Martin still hasn't gotten the rain it needs to rise the necessary few feet for swimming, but fishing and boat rides are still fun at Camp ASCCA in Dadeville. Also, the campers have been playing putt putt in the afternoons. Some of them are really good golfers! Whitney and I caught up with the campers this morning on their second day of camp. They all had great senses of humor and were really friendly! Country music seems to be a favorite this week--at lunch we all sang to Tim McGraw's "Something Like That" while waiting to eat our meatball subs.
