Rock fish big Lingcod saving fish with barotrauma SFD Rock fishing out of Half Moon Bay, California. Bill Gygax and I left Newark at 5 AM with a easy minus tide launch at the Pillar Point harbor. We had squid and anchovy (just in case we had a chance at Halibut) We went straight to Montara. We were fishing at 70- to 88 feet north of the light house about a mile. We were rewarded with near limits of rock fish and 2 big lings. We used squid with rockfish flies and Gygax was using just hooks with squids. I also use some hardware and we were both equipped with SFD™ inline with our rigs for any fish suffering barotrauma that had to be released. We SFD™-ed one china after putting it over the side to see if it could go down on its on. It wasn't able to make it on its own so we hooked it up to the SFD™ and down it went. It is such a pleasure to fish and not have floaters. The current and wind made for to fast a drift and we were trying to stay on target so we line up the boat with the motor in reverse against the drift and that held us steady over the rocks. However this caused some spray over the back and I shut the camera off to prevent getting it all salty with spray, so I dont's have a lot of video but I will share some of the action with the 2 big lings, rockfish and the SFD™ing the china. RC Helicopter FISHING! Dave tries hand at "Heli Fishing" For you skeptics who say the fish was dead, I assure you it wasn't dead. I didn't see one of you there either! That said, I still risked my E-Flite Blade 400 for some entertainment for you (I used 3 batteries, hence the cut) as fun and challenging for me. I doubt most others would risk their $450 heli just to hover over the water, let alone dangle a line! This scenario shows it may be possible to use the Helicopter for fishing, however it would be expensive fishing. It is always terribly windy here, so on this calm day, those simple waves in the water was of no concern to a sunfish! It also helps to have lots of fish, like in our Sand Pit Pond where they bite on hooks with no bait! (actually I used fish eggs and the hook 24" from the bobber. Hey, you never know, if you don't try! *Caution from past experience* If the Tail rotor hits the water even slightly, it will immediately cause a crash. Big fish can drain batteries fast. It takes and hour to charge between flights of only 6 minutes, so this could be a long process to catch a fish. Sunfish are not big fighters. Fly easy and thanks for watching. Afghan Soldiers Fishing with an RPG My brother served in Afghanistan while I was in Iraq. He witnessed demonstrations of Afghani soldiers using an RPG to "fish".
