Calabash, North Carolina
Romantic in its fishing village aura, Calabash is located along the waters of the Calabash River. Calabash is reminiscent of a quaint antique postcard and proudly assumes the title of 'Seafood Capital of the World'. Find thirty seafood restaurants within a square mile, many located on the waterfront, where fishing boats unload their fresh catch right at their back doors. Leisurely browse the unique boutiques, shops and art galleries. Stroll through Sunset River Marketplace where over 150 Carolinian artisans display paintings, pottery and jewelry. Of course, as a port village, many opportunites abound for boating for pleasure or recreational fishing. How do you make a catch? Take your pick - gigging, surf, pier, boat, net or deep sea charter. Fishing For Jack
In mid December of 2005, my brothers and I-captained by our father, ventured to Salvo, North Carolina for our annual OBX fishing expedition. The weather was crisp and the fish were absent, but we managed to find a rare kind of peace. This photo story was pieced together using music from my friends, Beggar's Circus and I serve it as a tribute to my father and brother, with whom I share an eternal bond. A couple of things made this series of photos very special for me. I especially enjoyed the way the photos of the Bonner Bridge, sleeping people, and sunsets came out. Tim Summers haunting voice on "Dublin Bay" and "My Son John" seems quite appropriate to serve as an anchor.
