The New Inlet Princess, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina Overnight bottom fishing trip we made back in Oct. 1975, onboard the "New Inlet Princess," out of Murrells Inlet, SC. This is a home video that was shot by my Father as we unloaded at Capt. Dick's Marina. Five of the Seven Grouper caught on the trip were over 200 lbs. I was a Jr. in High School at the time and caught the largest grouper which went 283 lbs. This video is in memory of Capt. Dusky Shark Caught In Myrtle Beach Surf Myrtle Beach South Carolina Springmaid Beach It was a great Fall day the fight lasting about 20 minutes. The Shark took almost half of the 12 lb test line off my reel right away. Then I had to follow it up and down the beach for awhile. When it was tired I pulled it in on a wave and grabbed the steel leader and beached him. I was surf fishing for Black drum and spanish mackeral at Springmaid Beach in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Wintertime Redfishing ~ Charleston South Carolina Sightfishing for Redfish on the Wando River in Charleston South Carolina. On the heels of a two week cold snap, we were lucky enough to find a few schools of hungry redfish sunning on a shallow mudflat. Fish were biting "Copper Head" flies and various soft plastics including the watermelon color "Devil Eye". Ospreys Bombing Live-Lined Croakers while Kayak Fishing Toast and Mudhound from the Williamsburg Kayak Fishing Association, and Nikonjedi from South Carolina Kayak Fishing were live-lining when several ospreys decided they were hungry for our bait. No birds were injured, and we headed in shortly after the filming so that we would no longer be agitating the ospreys, or causing injury. Although the majority of shark bites in Florida are likely attributable to this species, there has never been a fatal attackcredited to this species in this region. Scientific name: Carcharhinus limbatus Distribution: Off the east coast of the United States blacktip sharks range from New England to Mexico but are most commonly found between North Carolina and Texas, especially in spring and summer. Habitat: This shark inhabits shallow coastal waters and estuaries and offshore surface waters. Blacktip sharks use shallow inshore waters from South Carolina to Texas as nursery areas for their pups in spring and summer. They can be found in groups as young or adults feeding in shallow water. Life history: This species is a relatively fast growing shark, reaching maturity at about 4-5 years of age and living longer than 10 years. Number of pups per litter is usually 4 to 6. Maximum size of blacktips off the US eastern seaboard is about 6 feet in length Management: In the Atlantic, blacktip sharks are part of the large coastal shark management group, which is overfished; commercial and recreational fishing regulations are in place for this species.
