Miss Wasilla 1984, One Hell Of A Woman
Sarah Palin, the former Miss Wasilla, has just been announced as John McCain's running mate. The 44-year-old governor of Alaska was elected in 2006, but before that, she served as the Mayor of Wasilla, a small Alaskan town near Anchorage with a population just under 6,000. In order to win a college scholarship, Sarah Palin took part in many beauty contests, winning the crown of Miss Wasilla in 1984 before finishing second in the Miss Alaska contest. Afterwards, Miss Wasilla went on to study journalism in college and even worked on a fishing boat, but she eventually settled on a life in politics. Her first appointment was to the Wasilla City Council, but she worked her way up to Governor of Alaska after defeating the incumbent Republican governor.

In 2006, Palin was sworn in as the governor of Alaska, becoming the first woman and youngest person to hold the office. Palin was elected to two terms on the Wasilla, Alaska, city council from 1992 to 1996, then won two terms as mayor of Wasilla from 1996 to 2002. In August 2008, Republican presidential candidate John McCain announced he had chosen Palin as his running mate. She and her father would sometimes wake at 3 a.m. to hunt moose before school, and the family regularly ran 5K and 10K races. She helped the team win the Alaska small-school basketball championship in 1982, hitting a critical free throw in the last seconds of the game, despite having an ankle stress fracture at the time. Palin gave birth to her youngest child, Trig, on April 18, 2008, while in office as governor. Testing early in pregnancy revealed the fetus had Down's syndrome. Palin said she was sad at first but they now feel blessed that God chose them. She and her husband drove a further 50 minutes to Mat-Su Valley Regional Medical Center, where she gave birth seven hours later. Sarah Palin: Incredible Women Documentary
If we are ever going to change Washington DC, then we need new untainted blood such as her's. From what I've seen so far, I think that she is very intelligent, and will be a quick learner. She will do just fine. About the Governor Governor Sarah Palin made history on Dec. 4, 2006, when she took office. As the 11th governor of Alaska, she is the first woman to hold the office. Since taking office, her top priorities have been resource development, education and workforce development, public health and safety, and transportation and infrastructure development. Under her leadership, Alaska invested $5 billion in state savings, overhauled education funding, and implemented the Senior Benefits Program that provides support for low-income older Alaskans. She created Alaskas Petroleum Systems Integrity Office to provide oversight and maintenance of oil and gas equipment, facilities and infrastructure, and the Climate Change Subcabinet to prepare a climate change strategy for Alaska. During her first legislative session, Governor Palins administration passed two major pieces of legislation an overhaul of the states ethics laws and a competitive process to construct a gas pipeline. Governor Palin is chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multi-state government agency that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment. She was recently named chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) Natural Resources Committee, which is charged with pursuing legislation to ensure state needs are considered as federal policy is formulated in the areas of agriculture, energy, environmental protection and natural resource management. Prior to being named to this position, she served as co-chair of this committee. Prior to her election as governor, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council and two terms as the mayor/manager of Wasilla. During her tenure, she reduced property tax levels while increasing services and made Wasilla a business friendly environment, drawing in new industry. She has served as chair of the Alaska Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska's most valuable non-renewable resources: oil and gas. She was elected by her peers to serve as president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. In this role, she worked with local, state and federal officials to promote solutions to the needs of Alaska's communities. Sarah Heath Palin arrived in Alaska with her family in 1964, when her parents came to teach school in Skagway. She was active in her familys pursuits including serving as a sports team mom and school volunteer. She also runs marathons. Can John Mccain put Lipstick on Sarah Palin's Pork?
This is beyond karma at this point. Here's John McCain with one of his endlessly repeated, grandpa-at-Thanksgiving, punchline provided, anecdotes: "We're not going to spend $3 million of your tax dollars to study the DNA of bears in Montana," McCain said earlier this year, referring to a request from Montana for federal money to study the endangered grizzly bear. "I don't know if it was a paternity issue or criminal, but it was a waste of money." Here's what Sarah Palin brought home to Alaska in pork: According to a summary of requests for federal appropriations posted to her budget offices website earlier this year, Palin requested millions of federal dollars for everything from improving recreational halibut fishing to studying the mating habits of crabs and the DNA of harbor seals. Sure, he vetted her. But all this is only really instructive when you listen to Palin on the stump: In just three years our opponent has requested nearly one billion dollars in earmarks. Thats nearly a million dollars for every working day, Palin told a crowd in Lebanon, Ohio, Tuesday. So as we reform the abusive earmarks in our state our opponent was requesting nearly a billion dollars in earmarks as a senatorial privilege as I was vetoing half a billion as an executive responsibility. The DNA of seals? http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/the-pork-of-pal.html As part of her executive experience that the McCain campaign so highly promotes, Sarah Palin requested millions in earmarks from Congress. Three of them, totaling nearly $2 million, were classified as "objectionable pork" by.... John McCain. Reports the Chicago Tribune: *This year, Palin, who has been governor for nearly 22 months, defended earmarking as a vital part of the legislative system. "The federal budget, in its various manifestations, is incredibly important to us, and congressional earmarks are one aspect of this relationship," she wrote in a newspaper column. *In 2001, McCain's list of spending that had been approved without the normal budget scrutiny included a $500,000 earmark for a public transportation project in Wasilla. The Arizona senator targeted $1 million in a 2002 spending bill for an emergency communications center in town -- one that local law enforcement has said is redundant and creates confusion. *McCain also criticized $450,000 set aside for an agricultural processing facility in Wasilla that was requested during Palin's tenure as mayor and cleared Congress soon after she left office in 2002. The funding was provided to help direct locally grown produce to schools, prisons and other government institutions, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan watchdog group. Come on, now. Look, this means one of two things. Either John McCain barely looked into Palin's background and didn't realize he called her a Federal funding hog in the past. Or, McCain's team did vet her, knew she worked for everything McCain stood against, and he didn't give a damn that she wasn't the reformer he would make her out to be. If that's true, then he's saying he doesn't care because this was a craven political selection, not one based on principle or ability. Whichever it is, it sure isn't good for McCain. But, he does need to answer this important question - did he vet her, or is he simply misrepresenting her to the nation? Oh, and this has nothing to do with sexism. It has to do with the man topping the ticket, not doing his due diligence on his first major presidential decision. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/eric-schmeltzer/palins-earmarks-called-ob_b_123582.html

Meet Bristol Palin's boyfriend : LEVI !
Palin Boyfriend In The Spotlight : Levi Johnston, 18, heads to St. Paul, Minn., and will join the Palin family at the Republican National Convention. He's in a harsh spotlight, reports John Blackstone. [ September 3, 2008 ] (CBS) Levi Johnston is sure to draw plenty of media attention when he makes the scene at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn. Johnston, 18, is the father of Bristol Palin's baby, Palin's family says. According to the announcement, Bristol, the 17-year-old daughter of Alaska Governor and presumptive Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, is five-months pregnant. The word sent shockwaves through the political scene. Palin is scheduled to address the convention Wednesday night. CBS News correspondent John Blackstone went to Johnston's hometown of Wasilla, Alaska, of which Palin was once mayor, to profile Johnston. The high school hockey star's decision to join Bristol and her family at the convention was cheered by locals back home. "More power to him for being there," said one. "If he steps up and does the right thing and tries to stand by her, then good for him," said another. "It sounds to me like at least he's sticking by her, and that's a good thing," said yet another. When the Palins made the surprising announcement of the pregnancy, they said the young couple planned to wed. Johnston's mother is quoted as saying this is no shotgun wedding -- that the two teens had plans to marry even before they knew Bristol was pregnant. On his MySpace page, which has now been made private, Johnston reportedly said he's in a relationship, but didn't want to have kids. His mother is also quoted as saying she was worried about her son handling the spotlight, noting, "It's difficult enough for teenagers to deal with any pregnancy, and having the entire nation watching makes it worse." The New York Daily News sheds further light on Johnston. As the News puts it, "On his MySpace page, Johnston proudly declares: 'I'm a f---in' redneck.' 'I live to play hockey. I like to go camping and hang out with the boys, do some fishing,' he says on the site. He also warns that if anyone messes with him, 'I'll kick ass.' The Web site, before it was removed, appeared not to have been accessed for a year. On it, he admits to having a girlfriend. On the part where it asks about children, he wrote, 'I don't want kids.' " The News adds, "Mark Okeson, the assistant principal at Wasilla High School, told the Chicago Tribune that Bristol started her junior year last fall, in the town where Sarah Palin grew up. He said Bristol inexplicably transferred to an Anchorage high school midyear, leaving Levi behind."

Sarah Palin and Animals
Warning: Some images are of Sarah Palin and animals she has killed or encouraged others to kill. These images and footage may be disturbing to some viewers. This is the reality for millions. Please note all international governments, no matter what side of the political fence, have a long way to go to an equitable society for humans and non-humans. No government has any animal rights record to speak of, and a very poor "animal welfare" record. We tend to focus on conservative parties because sadly they always protect the profits of corporations over the rights of non-humans and humans every time. Sadly many US politicians tend to support hunting and are afraid to speak out against the NRA. To sum up contents, Sarah Palin's actions personally and as governor are of great concern at best. The following starts with the personal then moves on to Governor Palin's public record. 1. Sarah Palin is a lifetime NRA member and hunter as is her husband. They own a commercial fishing business. She hunts moose, wears fur, ice fishes, and (from photos) appears to own a bearskin rug. 2. Sarah Palin's husband's favorite sport to participate in is dogsled racing. 3. As governor, Sarah Palin supports the brutal aerial hunting of wolves and bears and authorized $400,000 in state funds to oppose a ballot initiative ending aerial hunting. State voters have twice before voted to ban such hunting. 4. As governor, in order to increase wolf hunting, Sarah Palin offered hunters a bounty of $150 each for every left front foreleg of a wolf they could provide the state. 5. In a region west of Anchorage, she authorized the killing of up to 70% of all bears (1400 bears) including mothers and cubs. 6. Alaskan Governor Palin sued the federal government (the Bush-Cheney administration) to keep polar bears from being listed as an endangered species. 7. Sarah Palin supports and promotes the brutal Iditarod dogsled races. 8. She opposed the closing of an unprofitable state-run dairy and authorized $600,000 in state funds to keep it open. 9. Sarah Palin supports drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), an extremely sensitive region where millions of animals could be harmed or killed. Senator John McCain has long opposed this drilling as do most energy experts who see it as useless. 10. Sarah Palin (Vice presidential choice by Senator John McCain) has publicly stated that global warming is a "farce" and is not caused by humans even though her state and the animals in it suffer some of the most dramatic consequences. In essence, regarding animals and the environment, she may be the worst vice-presidential candidate in history. More importantly, this raises great concerns about ability of Senator John McCain to make sound considered choices and decisions. eg choosing a Vice President who is a climate change sceptic at this dangerous stage in the Earth's history. Go vegan for peace, for all living beings and the environment. Some info of Sarah Palin's animal record was obtained from Mass. Animal Rights Coalition. Additional information: In the interview with Katie Couric, Sarah Palin struggled to provide examples of legislative action taken by McCain that could have avoided the credit crisis, Ill try to find you some and Ill bring them to you, Palin said to interviewer Katie Couric. Sarah Palin again emphasized that Alaskas geographic location is proof of her world knowledge, Well, it certainly does, because our, our next-door neighbors are foreign countries, there in the state that I am the executive of. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right next to, they are right next to our state, Sarah Palin explained, adding that when Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America, where do they go? Its Alaska.

John Mccain rides the Cynicism Express w/Sarah Palin
Has anyone noticed that Sarah Palin's central claim to political fame is a fraud? She represents herself as a fiscal conservative who abhors pork-barrel projects and said no thanks to the "Bridge to Nowhere" -- a $398 million span that would have linked Ketchikan, Alaska, to its airport across the Tongass Narrows. But as mayor of Wasilla (pop. 9,780), she hired a Washington lobbyist to bring home the bacon. And as a candidate for governor just two years ago, she supported both the Ketchikan bridge and the congressional earmark that would have paid most of its cost. We learned last week that John McCain is not who he is -- not, at least, who he claims to be. The steady, straight-talking, country-first statesman his campaign has been selling is a fictional character. The real McCain is either alarmingly cynical or dangerously reckless. You will recall that McCain gave the same prime criterion for choosing a running mate that every presidential candidate gives: someone who is ready to step in as president if, heaven forbid, the need arises. Barack Obama echoed those words before picking Joe Biden, who is about as prepared as a vice presidential candidate could ever be. You will also recall that McCain and his supporters have been lecturing us about the grave and urgent dangers our country faces -- Islamic fundamentalism, the resurgence of Russia and other geopolitical threats. In a menacing world, McCain says, he will keep America safe. So, at 72 and with a history of cancer, how could McCain choose a vice presidential nominee who has, let's face it, zero experience in foreign affairs? Being the nominal commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard doesn't count, unless you think Vladimir Putin is about to order an invasion across the Bering Strait. At a time when the nation also confronts enormous challenges at home, Palin has, um, slightly more than zero experience in domestic affairs. The reason most people move to Alaska is that it's different from the rest of the country. Salmon fishing and snowmobile racing are not front-page news in Ohio, Pennsylvania or Florida. McCain's political calculation in choosing Palin is obvious. Social conservatives, who had been unexcited by his candidacy, are ecstatic that he has picked a running mate who staunchly opposes abortion, favors the teaching of "intelligent design" in the public schools and generally embraces the agenda of the religious right. I have my doubts about the other objective of McCain's gambit: to win the votes of blue-collar women who supported Hillary Clinton. For one thing, these voters disagree sharply with Palin on most of the issues. For another, initial indications are that many women were insulted at the notion that they would automatically swoon over any candidate who happened to have two "X" chromosomes. The other thing we learned about McCain is that he is willing to take an enormous gamble based on limited information. He only met Palin once before summoning her for a final interview. He realized he needed to shake up the presidential race, and that's what he did. But we are reminded, if we did not realize it before, that the three things not to expect from a McCain presidency are caution, prudence and a willingness to always put the nation's interests above his own. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/01/AR2008090101716.html He wanted to choose the pro-abortion-rights Joe Lieberman as his vice president. If he were still a true maverick, he would have done so. But instead he chose partisanship and politics over country. "God only made one John McCain, and he is his own man," said the shafted Lieberman in his own tedious convention speech last week. What a pathetic dupe. McCain is now the man of James Dobson and Tony Perkins. The "no surrender" warrior surrendered to the agents of intolerance not just by dumping his pal for Palin but by moving so far to the right on abortion that even Cindy McCain seemed unaware of his radical shift when being interviewed by Katie Couric last week. That ideological sellout, unfortunately, was not the worst leadership trait the last-minute vice presidential pick revealed about McCain. His speed-dating of Palin reaffirmed a more dangerous personality tic that has dogged his entire career. His decision-making process is impetuous and, in its Bush-like preference for gut instinct over facts, potentially reckless. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/07/opinion/07rich.html

Sarah Palin - Alaska Maverick
Comparison of records Barack Obama and Sarah Palin, it is obvious Sarah Palin is MORE Qualified, this must Explain the media and Obama Campaigns attacks and smears on Palin's Pregnant Daughter, though Obama was born to his un-wed mother at just 17 herself. Sarah Louise Heath Palin ( born February 11, 1964) is the current governor of the U.S. state of Alaska, and is the Republican vice presidential nominee in the 2008 United States presidential election. In 2006, Palin was sworn in as the governor of Alaska, becoming the first woman and youngest person to hold the office. She is the first governor born after Alaska achieved statehood. Palin was elected to two terms on the Wasilla, Alaska, city council from 1992 to 1996, then won two terms as mayor of Wasilla from 1996 to 2002. In August 2008, Republican presidential candidate John McCain announced he had chosen Palin as his running mate. She is the second female vice presidential candidate representing a major political party, after Democrat Geraldine Ferraro in 1984. Palin was born Sarah Louise Heath in Sandpoint, Idaho, the daughter of Sarah Heath (née Sheeran), a school secretary, and Charles R. Heath, a science teacher and track coach. She is of English, Irish, and German ancestry. Her family moved to Alaska when she was an infant. She and her father would sometimes wake at 3 a.m. to hunt moose before school, and the family regularly ran 5K and 10K races. Palin attended Wasilla High School in Wasilla, Alaska, where she was the head of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at the school and the point guard and captain of the school's basketball team. She helped the team win the Alaska small-school basketball championship in 1982, hitting a critical free throw in the last seconds of the game, despite having an ankle stress fracture at the time. She earned the nickname "Sarah Barracuda" because of her intense play and was the leader of team prayer before games. In 1984, Palin won the Miss Wasilla beauty contest, then finished second in the Miss Alaska pageant, at which she won a college scholarship. In the Wasilla pageant, she played the flute and won "Miss Congeniality". Palin attended Hawaii Pacific College in Hilo, Hawaii, in 1982 for a semester, where she majored in Business Administration, and transferred in 1983 to North Idaho College. In 1987, Palin received a Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism from the University of Idaho, where she also minored in political science. Palin briefly worked in broadcasting as a sports reporter for local Anchorage television stations and with her husband in commercial fishing. She married her high school boyfriend, Todd Palin, on August 29, 1988 when she was 24 years old.The Palin family lives in Wasilla, about 45 miles (72 km) north of Anchorage. The Palins have two sons (Track, 19, and Trig Paxson Van, four months) and three daughters (Bristol, 17; Willow, 14; and Piper, 7) [ages as of August 2008]. Todd Palin has said Track's name came from the interest Sarah's parents had in the sport and the fact that he was born in the sport's season; Bristol was named after Bristol Bay in Alaska, where Todd grew up and where he does commercial fishing; Willow was named after Willow, Alaska; Piper got her name because it is uncommon and "a cool name"; Trig's name is reported to be Norse for "strength", Paxson refers to an area of Alaska, and Van is apparently a humorous reference to the rock band Van Halen. Palin gave birth to her youngest child, Trig, on April 18, 2008, while in office as governor. Testing early in pregnancy revealed the fetus had Down's syndrome. Palin said she was sad at first but they now feel blessed that God chose them. Though she announced that she was pregnant only during the start of her third trimester and one month before Trig was born, her pregnancy is reported to have surprised Alaskans, including her staff. After her water broke, on the day of Trig's delivery, Palin delivered a keynote address in Texas and then flew 8 hours to Alaska. She and her husband drove a further 50 minutes to Mat-Su Valley Regional Medical Center, where she gave birth seven hours later. Palin returned to office quickly, just three days after giving birth to Trig.Palin's decision to have the baby has been applauded by the pro-life community. Track enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 11, 2007, subsequently joining an infantry brigade, and Palin has said he will be deployed to Iraq on September 11, 2008. Todd Palin works for the oil company BP in a non-managerial position and owns a commercial fishing business. He is a world champion snowmobiler, winning the 2,000-mile (3,200 km) "Iron Dog" race four times. Neither her husband nor her son Track are registered Republicans, and neither have ever registered with a political party.

TODD PALIN : the EXCLUSIVE "First Dude" interview on FOX NEWS ! [Part 1]
[Part 1] ON THE RECORD with Greta Van Susteren. [ SEPTEMBER 15, 2008 ] Todd Palin, in his first major TV interview since his wife became John McCain's running mate, said that Sarah Palin's nomination was not a huge surprise to him, as he believed she was destined for higher positions. Palin, known affectionately as Alaska's First Dude, spoke with FOX News Greta Van Susteren about snowmobile racing, hockey, fishing, moose hunting and working on the Alaska oil fields. But he said his wife's sudden ascent from first-term Alaska governor to history-making vice presidential nominee had always been a possibility in the back of my mind. You know, for me, it wasn't a huge surprise, Palin said. You know, I'm just glad that they tapped into her. And I think Americans are seeing what shes about. And so to me, its just not a big shock. I knew that she was destined for higher positions, maybe not as soon, but that's just the way she is. He said he was at work on the night shift a few weeks ago when he heard about a fresh round of inquiries about the Palins' background. We didn't know if she was on a short list, or you know, if this was going to be for show, he said. But since then he said its been an incredible experience meeting John and Cindy McCain and working with the campaign. The Palin family, with their five children including a pregnant teenage daughter, has been under the microscope since the Republican presidential nominee made his surprise announcement after the end of the Democratic National Convention in late August. Todd Palin said so far, the experience has not been overwhelming. Yes its exciting, certain aspects of it, but that as a family we like busy lifestyles, he said. Our kids are very adaptable, he added, citing his week-on, week-off schedule working in the oil fields of Alaska's North Slope. Palin, also a champion snowmobile racer and commercial fisherman, described some personal details of how he met his wife and how they spend their swiftly diminishing free time. Palin said he first noticed and met Sarah when he was 17, having moved to Wasilla from a smaller community. (She was) very attractive, you know, an athlete, he said. She was very shy. As a basketball player, she wasn't one that scored a lot of points, he said. She was the type of player that you wouldn't see on all the stats, but she was a valuable part of the team. He said they continued to date while she went to college in Hawaii, and married in 1988. He said he figured from the beginning he would marry Sarah Palin. As for his own career, he said he sometimes has to deal with temperatures that are minus 80 below, with some wind chill factor on top. You just prepare for it, you know, he explained. If its raining outside, you put rain gear on. If you're on the slope working and its 40 below, you bundle up and you make sure that, you know, you're going to be safe. They've got some great technology out there as far as clothing and protection. The thrill-seeking Palin said he can also crank his snow machine up to about 110 miles per hour. And he said hes always looking for time to hunt moose and caribou. Its been a couple of years since I've dropped a moose, but you know, I always look forward to going moose-hunting, he said. But this year, we're kind of busy.
