Friday i received a call from James Sawyer and his brother Jeff from Miami wanting to get out for some night time Yellowtail Snapper action. The plan was to wait till the regular afternoon thunderstorms clear the area. By 5:00 PM the radar had cleared to the west and we where on our way out. We anchored in 80 feet of water and proceeded to start a chum slick. I was not very long before we where catching some nice Yellowtail snapper in the 2 - 4lb range. We ended the evening in about 30 feet of water looking to see i we could hook up with some Mangrove Snapper but unfortunately this was not going to be the night. Elsewhere dolphin fishing is still hit or miss. Most of the fish are being caught out 20 - 30 miles offshore. This time of the year it pays to run a deep lure while trolling since the summer heat tends to keep the fish in deeper water. Some good reports of Grouper and Amberjack have also been coming in fishing deeper ledges of Key Largo. Till next time.
