Rating: My Favorite Swordfish Reel
Reviewed on July 12, 2009 by Evan from Islamorada

We daytime drop for swordfish with this reel and crank it up manually! With over 1000 feet of braid out and big fish on, we have not had a problem with our reel yet. I do get it maintained at the local tackle shop once a year, but only because we have had fish over 400lbs test the drag system and we get them consistently.

Rating: Best Big Game Reel

We use shimano tiagra reels for all our marlin, swordfish, and wahoo fishing. They are super smooth and don't seem too heavy... We recently started fishing braid on them and the spool is very big to accomodate a lot of yards. I do recommend maintaining these very good with freshwater after each use and once a year service or so in your off season.
