Rating: Tarpon, Snook, Cobia, & Largemouth

I used to have a tackle box full of scented baits and small shrimp style baits. After fishing with a guide in Stuart, FL who used Hogy Lures I became a Hogy believer. The size and action of the Hogy 10" produces reaction strikes from Snook and Cobia. I caught my first ever Tarpon on a Hogy.

I started fishing the Hogy a few years ago and absolutely have a hard time fishing with other baits. The baits are soft yet tough and I have caught up to 20 fish on the same bait. I normally fish the 7" Hogy, but this year I experimented with the 10", 10" Double Wide and the 14" baits. All of them have produced fish up to 35 lbs. Bone has been my most productive color except when squid is the main bait present when I use the Amber color.

Rating: Works In Freshwater Too

I have been using this lure mainly for cobia in port canaveral and port st lucie, but recently I began using it for freshwater and catching some of the biggest bass in the lake. I think the one I have is 10 inches with 2 hooks and swims great. The slow retreive with jigging method really activates the strike.

My buddy has been talking about the Hogy for sometime and really liked the video he saw on it. With an upcoming trip to Everglades National Park, I decided to buy one and try it out of if the opportunity presented itself. We were at a spot fishing for big tarpon, and I had remembered this was in my bag. We rigged it with weedless hook and waiting about 5 minutes until a tarpon showed itself. The first cast to a rolling tarpon and it was hit VIOLENTLY!!! The fish was well over 70lbs and absolutely slammed it. Unfortunately, this fish didn't stick.

At the next spot we were casting to tarpon and hooked into snook and redfish. By now the hogy was in bad shape and hard to hook, so we stopped using it, but you can be sure I'll have more than one in my arsenal for next time.

Rating: Weedless Hogy Is Deadly!

I have used this lure with a weedless hook and has been very effective. It is easy to stop and create fast action at the same time. I like the white. The hook sets take some getting used to, but with most swim baits, you catch some and you lose some.

This lure looks deadly on the water.. I have only fished it once, but plan to get some more use out of it tomorrow.

I personally don't like using treble hooks on fish any longer, so stopped fishing some of my favorite tarpon top water lures such as the skitterwalk. I saw the HOGY on TV recent and purchased 2 for myself to try before I let me clients use them. To my suprise these are different and more effective than other alike softbaits. The larger baits are sure enought to trigger the strike from tarpon and we have caught several. I have found that you really need to drop it in front of a tarpons face to get the hit as they haven't been coming around or chasing them. So practice your casting as you may only get a few shots on those rollers or tailers.

Rating: Great For Big Fish
Reviewed on July 14, 2009 by CJ from Naples

I saw these in bass pro and bought one of the bigger ones to fish for tarpon and snook. Big fish can't refuse this bait, but I have found that the tarpon needs this right in front of their face in order to hit it. I haven't had them chase it, but if I cast it right to their face and jig it, than they slam it. A bit different for snook as I have had them follow it right to land or the boat. I'm pretty happy with this lure. Go get your hogy oN!

I fish the bay, inlets, bridges, etc for tarpon and snook in the evenings and get sick of having to catch mullet or buy shrimp in order to get quality fish. I saw the hogy at Bass Pro Shops and purchased the 10 incher! Let's just say the first day out that I had a record day. Not sure if the fish were just on that night, so I went out again a week later, and nearly duplicated my night. I haven't figured out the best way to rig these yet, but I do like the weighted head to get the hogy off the bottom for snook and i use the 2 hook rig when the tarpon are rolling on top.
