I have about a dozen "good" reels in the 25 to 65 size and couple of them are the Avenger bait feeders (ABF-40s). These are great for the money, really good for twice as much, good for three times ... you get the idea. The big test came when I hooked a 44-inch red on 12-lb mono a few months ago and landed it with no problem. The Avenger performed better than I could haved hoped. I like my Shimanos and Daiwas, but I should have instead loaded up on Avengers. Just ordered a third abf-40 for 32 bucks plus local tax at WallyWorld with the ship-to-store option. The Okuma Coronado I have in 65 size is a champ as well.

I had the okuma av-80a in cuba and hooked a 4 foot 20 pound barracuda. 50 pound braid steel leader on. That reel was impressive and stopped that cuda cold.

An excellent alternative to the more pricey reels for the casual surfcaster like myself who can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on a reel at this point in time. Also, I can buy 3 of these for the same price as a Penn or 15 of them for the price of a Zeebass and not have to worry about the Okuma getting dunked in saltwater, dropped in sand, or stolen from atop my truck. If any of the aforementioned happens and a reel gets ruied (which hasn't happened yet), I'll pop it off, save it for parts and plunk another 40 bucks down for a new one. I also like the fact that it somes with extra spools (even though they are plastic)...that alone has saved hours of fishing time. Remember, the fish don't care how much your reel costs.

Gave my son-in-law av-80 a few days ago for his birthay. he caught a shark well over over pounds last night in the surf.

the battle lasted several hours with long runs from the beach out to sea and for miles along the beach.

the reel preformed well.
