The captains of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association are finding the fluke fishing is showing a definite upswing as August moves on. With the season extended into late September this year, they expect the ocean fluking to be fun for all involved.

The "Miss Beach Haven" and Captain Frank Camarda reports decent fishing over the past week with the ocean water temperature at 74-degrees. On their bay trips they found decent action with "tons of shorts as well as keepers caught." In the ocean the improved fishing resulted in quite a few fluke over 3-pounds. Pool winner on Saturday was Pete from Beach Haven with a 4.5-pound fluke. Art Wolf of Holgate had four nice fluke keepers and several sea bass.

Captain Dave Wittenborn of the "Compass Rose" reports the mid 70's water temperature has finally gotten his ocean fluking action underway. Late summer and early fall are his favorite time of the year to fish as the fluke are moving out of the bays and onto the ocean lumps. Last weekend he had a steady pick of fluke and sea bass around the artificial reefs. Now that the sea bass spawning season is pretty much ended, he expects that action to take off. Once September arrives, he expects to leave the reefs for the lumps in 30-50 feet of water for some real nice action.

Captain Adam Nowalsky of the "Karen Ann II" had the Holman Ford group out recently on a day with less than 1-foot seas. He found a pick of fluke, with his anglers putting 10 keepers in the box. Ron boated a 6-pound, 6-ounce fish while Greg took honors with a 6-pound, 12-ounce doormat.
