This King Mackerel was caught on the "Top Gun" this last week off Miami.

Captain Nel was busy catching and releasing an 8 pound baby boy (future Top Gun mate) so Captain Dave Brown ran the "Top Gun" for a half day fishing charter. The angler, Jamie Major from Alberta Canada subdued the fish in 45 minutes. Mario Valladares, full time mate on the "Top Gun" drove his trusty custom gaff perfectly in the head but did not dare swing the big fish over the gunnels just in case.

Captain Dave came down from the flying bridge and opened the transom door and beast was brought aboard.

It was caught on a Daiwa BG60 spooled with 20 pound test line.

The fish was weighed by Jack on the Crook and Crook certified scale. Total weight 58.5 pounds.

We know Jack has seen a lot of big kings but he said it was the biggest king he had ever seen.

I am sorry I missed it but it was well worth it. I am very proud of the Captain Dave and Super Mario.
