Fall is just around the corner here in the Tampa Bay Gulf of Mexico region. September, October and November are outstanding months both for fishing success and the weather. Shorter days mean cooler water which in turn heats up the bite. The last few days we have seen wind and rain forcing several cancellations and dropping water temperatures.

Redfish schools are cruising the flats and the bite will only get stronger. Last week I stumbled upon several schools in a location I had not seen many redfish previously. Sometimes it pays to just be lucky! Snook are in transition leaving the offshore and beach spawning grounds. The bite has been ok since the season opened September 1. King Mackerel will return with water temperatures in the low 70's. Toss in Spotted Sea Trout, Mackerel, Bonita, Bluefish and sharks and the action can't get much better.

Night fishing for snook continues strong in September and October. I have died hard anglers who book a combination day and night trip and take advantage of all Tampa Bay has to offer. Slinging bait or tossing top water plugs it's all good.

Take time now to clean and lube reels, fill spools with fresh braided line. Take inventory of your tackle bag and boxes. Check out your local tackle store for the latest and greatest for fall. Captain Steven had minor surgery on his eye lid several weeks ago and all results were negative. Remember sun screen, hats, sun glasses etc and protect yourself from the suns rays.

This week we have a late morning high tide which is one of my favorites. I have several killer locations where when the tide starts to run out its like someone flipped a switch with the snook bite. The water temperature dropped big time over the wet weekend which also is helping with the bite.
