Lake Ray Roberts Fishing Report

Lake Ray Roberts is less than a foot over normal level and water is being released at 334 cfs. Water temperatures are 76 to 80 degrees and cooling slowly as the days get shorter and we start to get cold fronts.

Bass fishing is very good for numbers and the quality of the fish we are catching is improving with the cooler temperatures. Most fish are still coming from the shallow vegetation we have all over the lake in 2 to 6 feet. The fish are the fall feeding mode and we are seeing fish chasing shad most days and some days the topwater bite is all day right now. Pop-R's and Zara Super Spook Jrs. have been working good with the spooks seeming to attract bigger fish. Any plastics you care to throw in the shallow vegetation will catch some fish now at Lake Ray Roberts. I have been using Yum dingers 4" and Yum 7.5 inch worms t-rig with a light weight in Junebug color. Sand bass fishing is as good as it gets right now on deep water structure. We catching most fish in 30 to 35 feet and finding fish feeding at almost every spot we try. Cotton Cordell CC Spoons 3/4 chrome is still the best bait for me and of course do not forget the Flies-By-Night Jig tied 14" above the spoon to add some fish and some doubles. Still catching most of our sand bass from Isle du Bois State Park to Wolf Island on the east arm of the lake on points, humps, and roads

Have fun fishing,

Tim

Having fished Lake Ray Roberts exclusively, since it opened to motor boats in 1990, he knows the lake. Prior to fishing on Lake Ray Roberts, Tim lived in East Texas spending a lot of time on Lake Palestine, Lake Athens, Cedar Creek Lake, and Lake Tyler. Fishing for largemeouth bass in the warmer months, and white bass all year round, Tim has always had an obsession with deep water structure fishing. Having spent countless hours on Lake Ray Roberts studying maps and searching the depths with electronics, he knows the the main lake structure on Lake Ray Roberts like the back of his hand. Using triangulation, he is as comfortable fishing spots in the middle of the lake as most fishermen are fishing stumps in the back of a creek.
