Deep Sea Salt Water Fishing in South Florida Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today/Capt. Zsak

This afternoon's temperature was in the mid 80's – not a cloud in our Fort Lauderdale South Florida powder blue skies. With a nice breeze out of the east at 12 mph and no humidity, the day was very pleasant for our deep sea salt water fishing excursion.

This afternoon we have a repeat client from the Protective Insurance Company convention - Jack Profaizer from St. Louis and Matt Keller from Chicago. As with our previous charter on the Happy Day Today from this group, we fished in Fort Lauderdale South Florida and caught King Fish, Bonitas, Tunas and made drops on wrecks for Amberjacks. We decided to do some Shark fishing off of Fort Lauderdale, South Florida, so I headed out to the Shark ground which sits in 350 ft. of water. To compensate the current, I headed further south from the targeted spot so that when our fishing gear was all set up, we would be over the proper area.

We had a Shark bait on the surface, one mid range down 100 ft. and one sitting on the bottom in 350 ft. of water; we used Bonitas, Tunas, King fish – any fish carcass would be a good Shark bait. In addition, we put up one kite with two live Goggle Eyes. I held my position over this area, so that the scent from these Shark baits is taken to the north by the current. Any Shark within a quarter of a mile could pick this scent up and follow it to the bait. Forty minutes go by and the top bait screams line out from the Pen International 80 reel. After taking out 100 yards of fishing line, in a second or two we knew that this fish was going to be large. Jack was our first angler fighting the fish for 45 minutes, and after needing a break, he passed the rod to Matt to continue fighting the fish. After a total of an hour and 15 minutes with 25 lbs. of drag, the Hammerhead Shark made his appearance. After making numerous runs, the Hammerhead finally started tiring out and the fish was brought to the boat. Mitch, our mate, grabed the leader on this 94" Hammerhead Shark, which I estimated his weight to be 350 lbs. This magnificent fish was released to fight again.

It was time to start heading back from our deep sea salt water fishing charter to the dock at Bahia Mar, Fort Lauderdale South Florida. This ends another successful and adventurous deep sea fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
