INSHORE - The inshore fishing has slowed some this week for the trout anglers but I am still getting some reports of big trout being caught at daylight on a top water bait. The best reports have been coming from the Big Mud -- Little Mud Creek area. The best inshore action has been from the snapper along the channel edges and around the bridges. The snapper have been very active as long as the water is moving and it doesn't matter if it early in the morning or at high noon. The bait of choice has been live shrimp. Still a few reports of scattered redfish up around the Round Island area. The catch and release snook action on the flats has been steady. Most of the snook were caught by anglers who were fishing for trout.

OFFSHORE - On the offshore scene it's the summer patterns with long hot days and that has made fishing tough. But, there has been some nice fish reported. I had reports of cobia to 40 pounds coming from over the reefs in 90 feet of water. And, also in that same area a good snapper bite long with a few group, cuda's and plenty of sharks. The dolphin bite has been scattered with only a few fish reported this week. Most of the fish were caught in 300 plus feet of water on a trolled ballyhoo. The kingfish bite has also been steady when trolling a live bait or a ribbonfish in the 70 to 90 foot range. Most of the fish were 35 pounds or under. Lots of action along the beaches with tarpon, spanish mackerel and bonita eating everything in sight. Also, plenty of sharks in that same area.

Bio: Capt. Joe has been fishing the waters of the Indian River since he was 6 years old. When his father first took him snook fishing on the old wooden bridges using nothing more than a Calcutta pole, 100 pound mono and a big mullet attached to a 6/0 hook. Capt. Joes first snook wasn't that big, about 10 pounds, but after a 5 minute fight his father helped him flip the snook up onto the bridge and that is when Capt. Joe knew he was hooked on snook fishing. Capt. Joe is a U.S.C.G. licensed Captain as well as a MET registered Captain.
