We changed gears this past week and checked out the snapper bite. Snapper are lots of fun especially on light tackle, use 7, 7.5' medium / light rod with a 4000 series spinning reel loaded with 15 # Power Pro. Add a short piece of 25# fluorocarbon leader and a number 2 hook and you are ready. Shrimp work well; we opted for DOA Glo shrimp and smallwhitebaits. We located snapper on the mangroves with deeper cuts, towers in 10-17' and the deeper canals. Typical fish were 10" with some 13-14". We did manage a few surprises both redfish and snook to 26" greeted us even in the mid day heat.

Summertime means lots of people in and around Tampa Bay which is evident by all the floating trash. Boaters often by accident have trash fly out of the boat and the boater is not even aware. Stow all your trash, lets preserve the beautiful Bay. Take a moment and pick up that plastic water bottle, the fast food plastic cup.

Enjoy the water.
