A.W.S CHARTERS

flyfishingtarponkeywest.com

Key west is on pace to have the coldest December on record. With the =

water temperature below the normal comfort zone of all fish that =

frequent the flats. I have been spending most of my time in deeper =

water. My clients have been doing a little run and gunning for bonito =

that have been showing up in good numbers. This type of fishing is =

absolutely fantastic. Imagine you are running at full speed to catch up =

to the busting fish and diving birds. When you get into position you =

fire a white grub with a 3/4 oz jig into the mix. A fast jerking =

retrieve seems to draw the most strikes and when the hit does happen it =

is ferocious. The bonitos are up to 15 pounds so they put my light star =

rods to the test.

The few days the water temperature has made it up to the mid- high =

60's,The Barracudas and the sharks have been around. The cudas have been =

a little tough due to the cold and the few I have caught only ate with a =

very slow retrieve. The sharks have also been fairly tough until the =

temp gets up to 67.

For all of you tarpon fans an early and cold winter means a very good = season
