Kingfish and Sails
This sounds similar to my last report but we are still finding sails and kingfish on the reef.
The kingfish have definitely kept the rods bent and the reels singing. On all of our trips we were able to catch our limit or very close to it. Some of kingfish have been in the 20# range. We have been catching them on herring on a breakaway sinker. Fishing on Sunday yielded a nice catch of 6 kingfish, bonita, shark, and almost a sail.
The only sailfish we saw Sunday was chasing the free pichards that I was throwing out. Unbelievably, he managed to stick around the boat for a couple of minutes and miss every hooked bait we had in the water. Sometimes that was just the way it goes. The sail fishing is picking up slowly. There are some days when a couple are caught and then there are days when you may only see one. As we progress further into the year we start to catch more and more sailfish on a consistent basis.
We have not had a chance to go out sword fishing due to rough seas. The predominantly north winds we experience this time of year along with the north flowing current of the gulf stream add up to lumpy seas. Once the weather settles down the fishing should get right on track.
Soon the tarpon fishing will be in full swing. I will start tarpon fishing in the next coming days to see if they have arrived on our beaches yet. Once we make a couple SUCCSESSFUL trips you will be the first to read about it here. So keep checking my reports to see when they get here if you want to target the silver king this year.
The bait fishing continues to be strong as we are catching and selling goggle eyes for the upcoming tournament season and for the weekend angler. If you are in need of these sailfish "Tick-Tacks", as we like to call them give us a call and we can take care of you baitfish needs.
