Lake Ray Roberts Fishing Report

Lake Ray Roberts is still 2.5 feet above normal level and water is being released at 666 cfs. Water temperature is 82 on the main lake in the morning and will be cooling down a little more in the next few days with the cold front we have moving through North Texas. All of the boat ramps are now open on the lake with the exception of Buck Creek which is still closed. Bass fishing is good in 2 to 8 feet on main lake points

with flooded vegetation. Topwaters early are producing some fish as well as small crank baits. We have been catching most of our fish with splitshot rigged 4" Yum Dingers and 4.75" Houdini worms. Junebug and any watermelon color has worked best. In the past week I have seen some schooling largemouth activity but most are the real a small 4" to 10" fish. We are also starting to catch some fish in the mouths of creeks in shallow vegetation.

White bass have been schooling every morning for the past week under birds. We have seen them all around the lake but the best area is from Crappie Island to Wolf Island. The fish are on the move with the shad, to stay in active fish you have to move around a lot. There is a lot of birds around and they are showing where the fish are schooling. Water depth has not been a factor as we have caught them in 4 feet and schooling over 40 feet. In these schooling fish you can catch them on whatever you want to throw, topwaters, crankbaits or jiggin spoons. We have caught a lot on topwaters and a lot on CC Spoons chrome 3/4 oz. with a Flies-By-Night jig tied 14 inches above the spoon. I have found some sand bass starting to show up on deep stucture but these have not been near as reliable as the schooling fish.

Have fun fishing,

Tim
