We provide a professional bass fishing guide service from lake Okeechobee to the Florida Keys.

Today I was out with Bruce Watkins and his buddy Shane. The two long time friends were down from Michigan for a break from the ice and snow and to catch some Florida peacock bass for the first time. We only had a half day to fish today and there was a lot of cloud cover early in the day. That combo made things interesting. Also, some of the canals that we normally catch fish in were muddied up from the canal cleaners or something and the fish were just gone from those areas. So, we adapted and worked our way back through the neighborhoods where we found a spot that had some current running through a little slough. We ended boating 7 or 8 peacock bass there. Bruce got to sight fish one that was about 2 pounds and Shane had his chance at the male that was about 3 or 4 pounds but just couldn't get the hook pegged when the fish finally ate for him. Bruce also had one on a little further back in the neighborhood that was at least 5 or 6 pounds and came off on us right at the boat. Darn!

We left the canals and made the 15 minute run down to the Miami airport lakes in search of a big fish. There is deeper water in the lakes and the big peacock bass seem to congregate there a little better. We worked a couple of the walls quickly as we only had an hour or so to fish before the guys had to call it a day and get ready for a nice dinner and the South Florida night life. About 20 minutes before we had to go Bruce yelled "fish on" the drag peeled out a bit and after a nice fight he got to land a nice 4 pound plus butterfly peacock bass. I asked Bruce (since he is a small-mouth bass fisherman up on the great lakes) how that fish compared to a 4 pound smallie and he said that "they fight every bit as good if not a little better!" Thanks a lot guys, I had a blast and we will see you both back in the spring for some serious sight fishing!
