It was a big Bass Holiday weekend, Saturday we loaded the live well with bunkers and headed south. We had Rick T and the guys from mountainside hospital on board. Our first stop was all bluefish, but on our second stop we found the Bass and they were big. We boated 6 large bass with Billy Js fish weighing in at 38 LBs (Boca Hand Scale) Personaly I though we should have had it weighed, it looked even larger to me. Billy is no stranger to big bass on our boat this was his 3 big fish. 5 guys on board 6 nice bass and action all day. I was very happy with the morning. On the afternoon Trip we returned to the same area but the conditions had changed, strong south wind, and very little current. We tried the area for over an hour with no luck, just Blues biting our bunkers in half. I decided to make a move. we moved more south and dropped the hook on some good marks. It started with bluefish but then we had some action with the bass, we boated 2 and Jerry M lost a really big fish. The bluefish provided steady action and the bass did not like that south wind. I was happy about the action but of course I wanted more bass in the boat.

Sunday morning we had Jim and Mark from J&B propeller shop (excellent propeller guys). Jim wanted to treat his grandson to some big bass catching. We made the run and loaded up with live bunker, then we made the even longer ride to the fish. At first it was bluefish biteoffs then Mark K hooked the first nice bass, a 20+ fish that fought like a larger fish. The action was constant with bluefish. You just had to wait out the bite. Learning from Saturday we took over 200 baits with us because of the bluefish. (Mark D our mate did an awesome job with the net) Jim hooked the next bass another 20+ fish. Then young Mark caught his Bass, Jim then put another large bass in the boat. The South wind came on strong. We decided to call it a day. We came home with 4 bass, 3 large and a load of bluefish.

After talking to other boats I was happy with our results, we did run a lot of miles but sometimes if you want fish you need to! Pictures should be up on the website in the next few days. Good fishing Captain Jerry Beaver Teachers Pet www.charterfishnj.com
