April 3rd, Spring is here!!!

I woke up at 4:00 am and drove down to the Susquehanna Flats to meet my best friend Matt. We mounted up in his new Maritime skiff with a cooler full of Herring. With in five cast I was hooked up to a 25 lbs pound bass on a over sized slug go. Unfortunately the bass spit the bait right back in my face at the side of the boat. I drove back to PA looked at my boat and decide to meet My uncle Butch who will be guiding with me this year. I laid the anchor and hooked up with a 6-7 lbs shad with in minutes I was marking fish every so I called Butch over to Anchor Next to me. With both boats side by side everything came together just right. The wind laid down to 4 mph out of the south, the tide started to dump out, and the shad where everywhere! Between the two boats we had about 22 bites and landed 18 shad and 2 sturgeons. The biggest shads were in the 4-7 lbs range and a few smaller. All the shads were caught on smallmouth rods and boy were they good fights. It makes it all worth it when days come together like this.
