Today's trip with Buck, Jim and JR (not pictured) started out a little on the slow side. I was worried that the strong northwest winds and cooler temperatures would slow the bite some. That seemed to be pretty much the case until around noon when the bite got really good...really fast! I think it was just a water temperature thing. This morning the water temp. had dropped 6 to 8 degrees from where we've been doing so well lately. By noon though the sun was warming up the water fast. We only had three keepers in the boat at noon, but after making a move and a change in presentation, the fish started biting like crazy. We were pitching 1/8 oz. jigs/crawlers along a weedline and we had a blast for the last couple hours of the trip. We were in 9 feet of water, and with my polarized glasses on I could see schools of walleyes swimming along the bottom. Some schools looked like there were 30 to 50 fish swimming in them. One time I even got to see a fish turn and pick up Buck's jig, I could tell he had a fish before he did, it was pretty cool! Overall this year has been one of the best for consistent bites lasting into July. The last three trips we've landed 65 keepers, released many of them, and released tons of small fish as well. Weather always seems to be the key factor out here, so it's nice to have a few spots we can count on when the weather changes or isn't exactly like we'd prefer. Here's a picture of today's catch, lots of good eaters for the guys. The biggest fish today was only around 21 inches, but in the shallow water they sure put up a great fight on 6 lb. test. Good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area...have a safe and fun 4th of July weekend.
