March 1st and 2nd are the dates set aside for the Sproat Lake salmon fishing derby. Poetts Nook is once again the derby headquarters. Wednesday February 13th was an absolute perfect day in Barkley Sound. Guide Herman boated five wonderful chrome feeder Chinook for guests from Nebraska. The top fish of the day was a fourteen pound Chinook caught in 125 feet of water close to Canoe Pass. The fish took an anchovy in a green Rhys Davis Teaser Head. With the Herring spawn coming close in the next few weeks the Chinook fishing should really pickup. Weather conditions like Wednesday should also become more normal than abnormal as we approach early spring.
