My three day trip with Richard of VA started Monday Jan 28th.Morning

air temps were in the low 30's with a good frost and about 37 degrees colder

then Sunday the day before.Water temps dropped about 11 degrees over

night to 58.Not what you want to see when fishing artificals in FL during

the spawn.We decided to fish the St Johns River because of the 20 mph

winds.Fished some canals where the water temp was a few degrees warmer

and ended up with 8 fish to 6 1/2 pounds with the best 5 weighing about 17

pounds. Not a bad day considering the conditions we were dealing with.

Tuesday we fished Lake Toho {see Toho report for details}

Wed Richard was just fishing a half day 4 HR trip so we loaded up with

shiners and headed to the St Johns River.A big change in weather from

Monday with the low air temp at 60 degrees and the water temp coming

up to 63 degrees.The fish were on fire total fish count around 15 with the biggest

weighing 8 1/2 pounds.Richard lost two other giant fish in the pads but said

he is coming back soon for revenge.Pad fields off the main river is where

we spent the total 4 HR trip today.

I want to thank Richard for sticking it out in the coldness and the high winds.
