When the Dreaded East Wind raises it's ugly head down here on the Lower Laguna Madre you have to be creative. Over the past few years I have thankfully encounterd this dreaded east wind very occasionally and have learned some tricks to still get some decent fishing in. Get a good chart of this area and locate old gas and oil channels running east and west. These channels can be only a few inches deeper than the adjacent flats or a couple of feet deeper. If shallow enough you can sight-fish them and if you are traversing a deeper channel, you can blind cast flies or lures and watch the channel edges and catch some reds slinking up on the flats. Two days ago the dreaded east wind was blowing about 10 mph and was a perfect scenario for fishing the old pertroleum channels. I was out for about 3 hours and hooked 5 reds weighing up to 6.5 lbs.

Not bad for what most feel around here as very difficult conditions.
